 CCR Autocross Site Search
« Thread Started on Dec 15, 2006, 3:48pm »

Currently we run at only two locations, Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC and Continental Tire in Charlotte, NC. It has been confirmed that this is our last season running on the Continental Site, so we need any and all ideas for new sites.

Please contact any CCR officer if you have any ideas or information.

Google Earth doesn't have enough detail for the Kannapolis site, but here's Lowes:

Sorry for the large size. I figured you could just grab the image and make it whatever size you want.

Just a note to add to the Continental Site....

Beware the giant ruts in the road around the plant. I believe one of the Vettes lost a radiator down there....and I know my alignment is somewhat screwed up after hitting one.

I went past that intersection today, it looked like they had patched (filled in) those ruts. Looked fairly level.

That could be because in the Z you are at eye level with the ruts and can't see them :)

Well. That stopped as soon as they "corrected" the bid rigging that went on into the 80s. Oh the days of fixed price contracts that were set up in the back rooms of some bar in Raleigh..

Yesterday engineers started exploratory subsoil testing digs for the new Knights Baseball stadium in uptown Charlotte.

Now might be a good time to start wondering what will become of the existing stadium and its parking lots that we know so well.

Perhaps some enterprising people on this forum could start investigating contact information for York to determine if we can make a presentation that the site be retained for some purpose to our advantage. Otherwise there is the distinct risk of it all being demolished for an industial park. Certain parts of the land have already been released for such purpose.

2010 is current date for the new stadium....

i was driving along today and noticed the dana plant here in statesville has a lot about the same size as conti that is never used. so i stopped to check it out its pretty neglected and has grass growing in the cracks and more light poles than id like, and its pretty bumpy too. on the other hand its got no fence around the perimeter so you could utilize the outer portions more than conti (and do it safely), and theres no mountainside like the auction either. the ammount of cars that use this space is nearly zero id imagine so its got that over the auction also. i dont know if its even usable though.

its just northwest of the 40/77 interchangeoff of the 77 service road. the lot is on the other side of the building from 77 .if someone can google earth it and post a pic that would be helpful

Statesville's satellite shots on Google and Yahoo are pretty poor. I'll see if I can find anything over the weekend.

anybody have a contact with the Mall in Hickory. There is a section right next to the highway that would probably support an event.
