Seen as the Miata is such a popular car and we have plenty of "tuners" and technicians in our club, I have a good question to ask.
There is no telling how long ago my "new" Miata has gotten an alignment if ever. It currently has 83k miles on it. Has anyone seen the eccentric cam bolts seize or have an issue over time? I'm trying to determine whether it would be a good idea to buy new cam bolts while doing the suspension upgrades before aligning it. I'm sure it would be a good idea, but wondering if it is necessary.

No need to replace the bolts. Your bushings are probably good at 83k (unlike mine at 224k).
I've seen one bolt seized on a front lower shock mount. Haven't seen the others have a problem.

AJ, I have broken TWO on Elvira and one on TJ's Miata daily driver. I bought spares and kept some extras from scrapped parts cars. They do tend to seize and it's not a good spot for a torquey air wrench... New from dealer is expensive. If you get used, don't polish shafts as just a bit can create play which creates vibration which lets your settings slide over time... just clean. Anti-seize. Same on PFF bolts. Also... if you do wheel bearings, the crush washer from OEM is expensive (I think it was $26 in box.) O'Reillys Auto Parts has them good quality on a card with blister pack for $8. ;D

i seem to rember something about the early ones having eccentric bolts with a 1.5 thread pitch that came loose or didnt have enough clamping pressure, so the later ones have a 1.25 thread pitch to counter this. have never had problems from mine but they have the 1.25 bolts. never had any seized on any customer miatas either. hope this helps

AJ's is a 1.8, so his are probably good...

That makes sense...Elvira's were early 1993 and TJ's DD is a 1997 ... 1.8.

WOW! Thank you for the responses guys. I was hoping for this and most of the people I wanted to hear from. Mine is a 96 so I will hope that I am good. Worst thing that happens, I can't align it before ZMax. Walter and JB will have I disagree anyway lol. I believe if I realign frequently, which I doubt there is a need to with the Miata and numbers I have, I will track down a set to be on the safe side. I'm glad I posted the question and am happy and grateful for the responses. Thank you!

Dude, just align the darn thing and get it over with. Now. Align it now. I'm already tired of hearing excuses, and I haven't even seen the car yet.

if you go sideways over rumble strips at 60+mph you can expect to strip a camber bolt...
btw...MarkM are you still doing alignments with driver in-car? Need to set up the ITA

In the middle of a complete control arm upgrade on my Miata...bought a set of arms with brand new urethane bushings installed....these came of a 1.8 car, so the big brakes go with it....A tip for you doing the suspension changes...to remove the top bolt on the front, leave the shock attached to the lower control arm..this keeps the weight off the bolt and makes it easier to remove...this also work in reverse...
Thanks for the tip on the camber bolts...I noticed that the 1.6 bolts have a 17mm head and the 1.8 bolts a 14...I had changed to the 1.8 bolts because they were newer..did not know about the treads...
