Darryl is working on a video which he will be selling soon. We are still working on how to use some of this to create a Hillclimb promotional video... the way Darryl and his crew shot this, who needs words? What can you say that would add to impact... I am getting bombed with emails and calls from people wanting to get involved in hillclimbing. Some are new... "need a car" and "want to know how to get started". SOME are road racers that are "feeling the financial crunch" or "want to do something different" or "getting tired of going in circles..." Everybody has to decide what they want to do for fun... for a lot of people, there's a new interest on the radar. ;D One of the great things about hillclimbing is the levels of competition. You are competing in class. You are competing for overall position. You are competing with yourself for best personal time. AND you are competiting with everyone whoever ran that hill in the past. If we ever do get to return to a certain park for a hillclimb (Chimney Rock), it will be interesting to see how modern race prepped cars compare with times from the past. I think we'll see... those guys were really fast and a bit crazy! Hey Brandon... get busy and get a rollbar in one of those MR2s. Anyone looking, I know where there are 3 hillclimb ready log-booked cars for $2300- $3000.

Ted - I really think that the action sells itself.. If the right attention is drawn to it. Yourself and CCR as a whole, did a great job of promoting this event both before AND after.
Road racing on a closed course is one thing. But flying through the woods on a closed "public" road is the stuff.. Harks back to the roots of motorsports and of the SCCA itself, running through the country roads around a little town called Watkins Glen way back in the 40's.
Sounds like the challenge will be handling spectators and finding parking!
Yeah- I was one of those emails too.

Just to pile-on here - a few thoughts to add to Ted's:
- Where else in racing today do you finish some distance from where you start? Rally, OK. Solo 2 - a short distance. Circuit racing? Nah. Hillclimb was there at the Nativity of road racing - these are A-to-B events over a fixed distance. And what a challengin distance it is !
- The threshold of entry is very low !! You need to come close to building a GCR car, but with some notable cost saving items. Fuel cell a good idea, but not required. Tow hooks, ditto. Take out the glass? Don't have too. Select Autox classes with reasonable safety? YES! Should you prep a disposable car that won't cost you your marriage if you crash? Probably - but that is up to you (see below). Be creative!
- "A man has to know his limitations." - Clint Eastwood. Understand your budget, and your rival's. Know the class system. Judge your skill level honestly. At Road Atlanta, your spin might result in a local yellow (or no yellow at all). In HC your off costs everyone seat time. Hey, it happens, but if we all went out there like Ricardo Pa-crazy everytime it would be a long day.
- Somebody said (might have been Yogi Berra or Woody Allen): "90% of success is just showing up." Here here. Ya. life happens and you miss events. but it is so much better to be there. We mustered 30+ drivers and all had a great time at the Dragon. I can name at least one who broke on Saturday, but he was there smiling and helping out on Sunday. That just doesn't happen everyday.
So if anyone reading this is on the fence - GO AHEAD AND TAKE THE WHEEL! If you have the racing spirit, you will love hillclimb.

When/Where is the Locost, Elvira & Evo promo video going up? After I finish the individual compilations, (21 online so far, 7 more to go - vimeo.com/killboy/videos) I will start working on the onboard run. That one was shot from 4 different angles plus a roadside clip, so it's going to be tricky to pick and chose...I know you may think you want to see all the footage from all the angles, but in reality you'd lose interest in the monotony of unchanging viewing angles, trust me here. Hang tight though, I'm on it!

Thanks again Darryl for all your work... every single video you are posting is a testimony to our sport. I am getting hit with email aftrr email,,, how do I get started... how do I get a license.. this is really creating a lot of new interest. Ask Scott said, where else can you get this in amateur motorsports? This much fun, fellowship and bang for the buck? In some of those videos, you see the grin through the helmet!

Darryl - While I agree that we probably wouldn't want all the footage from all the angles from the three car session, I think the hillclimbers would appreciate an incar and chase car synchronized if possible. We hillclimbers will watch an incar video of a hill dozens of times to help us learn the best line as well as road irregularities. Even if its not possible to synchronize different cameras, the raw footage included at the end of a DVD would be greatly appreciated!
