I know I don't need to use OEM rails and sliders to mount a race seat in CSP. Because of my height I am needing to mount the seat right to the floor. I am fabbing my own mount brackets. Am I'm I required to use the existing seat mount points or can I bolt/weld to the seat floor pan as needed? I am planning to back brace the seat.

No need to use existing mounting point. You can get G-Force mounting plates from Discovery Parts and drill the floor and use Grade 5 or better hardware. In my case I've had both Kirkey and Ultra-Shield seats mounted to the floor this way and have never had an issue. Just drill 4 holes in the bottom of the seat and then right through the floor. Make sure you avoid the frame box on the underside of the car. As far as the seat back brace, you will need it for NON-FIA certified seats if you wish to use the car for TT or road racing. Make sure you mount it high enough on the seat to prevent the top from any fore/aft or lateral motion. You can mount it to the roll bar or cage using muffler clamps and grade 5+ hardware.

Thanks Mark. The seat is carbon fiber, hence the back brace. I'm also 6'1" so straight to the floor is my only option to have roll bar clearance. Drilling holes in the rear part of the seat to the floor would be ok but I have it tilted back so fabbing a real bracket needed. Attaching it to the floor will be easy if I don't use OEM spots.

After getting the floor pan prepped and setting the seat in I used a mockup of the Hard Dog M1 roll bar to see where I end up. There is no way I can meet the recommended 2" clearance from the top of the bar to my helmet. I WILL clear it but lucky if it's even an inch. How much trouble will this give me?

Broom Stick Test. If your helmet is under a broom stick placed between the bar and windshield frame you are good to go, no one is going to bust you if you are UNDER that line. Besides, if you put a top on it who is going to know? Trust me on this, I've got a Div. Scrutineer license and have been through this issue with several cars at CMP. Adding a HANS skewed the angles for some drivers of HP Midgets and we managed to get them to meet this test.

Do you have the option to replace the lower seat padding with thinner material? I have to do that with my Cobra seats. Room to tilt the seat back a little more?

I've already removed the foam and tilted back. I'm already going to lower the steering wheel a bit and add a quick release to extend it. I'm sure I'll clear it just not by two inches. It may also be I need a different helmet.

Surgically remove a few sections of your spine - this will help with your height clearance issue.

Although it is highly recommended to have a rear seat brace for a TT level 3 or higher competition cars, it is not required for CSP regardless of FIA or not. With a carbon fiber seat the brace needs to be constructed to absorb impact and not punch through the seat back. Its your back so do what fabrication you feel is needed to cover all possible eventualities.
