Looks like we have max'ed out the novice school at 60! Now, I was wondering how many of those registered are actually novices??? I know that Colin and I have registered because, well, because we could! But, I would gladly give up my slot (since we are there really to help/instruct) to a legitimate novice and get more folks into the sport. Is there some way we can identify who the real noobies are? The only reason we registered was to get a chance to run the Fiesta - tacomobile - before the AX. Heck I would be happy if I could just do a fun run or two to make sure the cylinders are all firing. Thoughts? should we try to make sure this is really a "novice" school (or at least a school for those who haven't done it with CCR recently)?

Me and a friend will be racing on sunday but we would like 2 attend the novice school on saturday. Great! Get to the autocross school, and that's a great way to start learning how to be an autocrosser. Then maybe instead of racing on Sunday, you would rather come out and compete in our Autocross.

Quick ? about novices.
Once you win the Novice class, are you placed into your regular run group or can you continue to run Novice ?

I am in a similar position, though I could use some more instruction, I primarily entered the school to get some run time with the new engine and work on balance before Sunday.
I would be interested in giving up my spot if I could just get a couple runs in at some point, late in the day even

Uh, I came to watch one AX last year, does that make me a novice?
Oh, and I'm registered as Bogner47 (conveniently enough). And novice question also- do I need to get numbers for the school, or is that extraneous info that the Myautoevents always requires?

Not really needed for the class, but will be on Sunday. Oh- and don't get to worried about negative Karma. It seems that if you don't receive any after a few posts it starts to go away or something. We are still learning how this site behaves, compared to the old one.

Nope, won't be doing Sunday, so I guess that's good to know I don't need to bring masking tape.
And its not so much that I mind having negative karma, its more that I'm curious as to who and what I've done to deserve it! Quick, someone exalt me! Yes, that's it, bow and grovel all you subservient loathesome peons! Mwahaha!

I have had a couple of PMs from folks who want to attend but are concerned that the school is full. If we are trying to attract new talent - perhaps the regulars who are coming to use it as a test-n-tune (while providing instruction) could have a separate time (before or after student runs) to check out the course. I plan to assist in instruction - even if it is to teach the art of "shagging cones". But a couple of runs with a new car would be nice just to make sure I don't have some funny fuel or handling issues - this isn't a street machine so there is no where to try it out other than at an event (legally- that is! )

Based on this on the schedule: 9:40- 11:20am CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION SESSION (Field Instructors Practice Sessions)
It looks like we have some time for whatever while students are in the classroom...

The instructors drive the course beforehand so it will be imprinted in their minds when they ride with the students, allowing them to give better instruction as to what to do etc. The Safety steward is responsible for course saftey. The field instructors will have a briefing on expectations, assignments, coursewalk and other instructor-specific details while the kiddies are in the classroom. We want all the instructors to be representing the same basic info to the kiddies. The driving piece will only occur after the instructors have received this briefing in the classroom and in the field, followed by an instructor course walk with further briefing by the course design staff and outdoor instructor. Or something resembling what I just said... ;D Pdawg

I guess I didn't make that very clear however. But, I registered - even though I intend to be an instructor. What we need is to know whether or not we should register if we are an instructor. It would seem to make sense to have only the students register for the event - and the instructors to be there to help. That would open up some slots for more students, which is what it is all about. Colin and I have been at the past NTI events and Novice schools to help out and it is good if we can keep the focus on the students/prospective members.

I have dropped out as well
Even though I am not a novice, I could ALWAYS use instruction from those who are better than me, which is one reason for entering the school as well as "testing" a new car. The course usually is changed from the school to the autocross as to lend no advantage to anyone so that doesnt apply.
Anyway, dont want to tick anyone off so I have removed myself from the school. Any novices out there who want in, there are now two spots available.

I'll be there with the car, steven has to do some tuning to the ECU at some point during the day
As far as teaching anyone, I am not the one for that. I am still a noob in my mind. I have been doing this for the last three years, and in that time I have done no more than 15 or so autocrosses with two different vehicles. I have only placed twice in all that time, most of the time one position out or somwhere in the middle.
For the most part, that is why I signed up for the school. Never should have stated otherwise.

Like you, I think you can ALWAYS improve by getting some pointers from another autocrosser. I like to ride along with other to see what I can learn and frequently get asked to ride along to offer tips. So we all have something to share. I didn't start this thread to push anyone out who wants to do the program. My comments were due to some PMs that came my way from interested noobs who found out the program was sold out. No big deal - we all do this for fun! Otherwise, why bother - the winnings sure don't cover the losses. As one of our forum participants likes to say - "if I had all the money I have blown on cars, I'd blow it on cars!" Lets all have fun this Weekend!!!

Last minute question for you guys ... we were planning to bring 3 cars (one each for me, my wife and my son) ... the car my wife was to drive has come up with a flat and being that we discovered it at 6 pm on a friday I dont see it being fixed by the morning ... my questio is can the 3 of us still participate with 2 cars? We will get the flat fixed in for my wife to drive sunday. (novice lesson learned ... dont use your street tires for race tires when there is a bunch of construction going on near your work)
