Yep - as explained at the board meeting....CCR extends approximately to the Continental Divide - so ya just need to stay on this side of the tall stuff. So...Asheville is not in CCR? It's on the other side of the divide. I'm sooooo confused. But of course, we know who's on top O the Divide.

Well - looks like we sneak all the way to the border by TN. Hmm, looking at that, we are more Western Carolina than Central Carolina. But, who cares....let's play wid sum cars.

Actually, if you check out the locations of our solo events and the threads on our socials, we're more like the Central Charlotte Region than the Western Carolinas Region.

Actually, if you check out the locations of our solo events and the threads on our socials, we're more like the Central Charlotte Region than the Western Carolinas Region. Well, lessee, in the mountains, we're siphoned off by the Highlanders. In the Triad area, by you guessed it, the Triad Sports Car club. It seems SCR runs 2, maybe 3 times as many events in the blue, CCR section of SC, whereas the green section, which is supposed to be SCR, seems like "no-man's land", at least by comparison. Oh, also in the SC foothills, there's Clemson's club (though from some scuttle-butt I heard at the last event, they've practically been torpedoed by the University, ironically). When we had events in Boone, there'd be about 30-40 drivers (though frankly, I don't think the State Farm lot could comfortably handle a whole lot more than that). So even if CCR is essentially "Central Charlotte Region", is it any wonder?? On a similar note, look at NCR's nice sizeable orange area on that map, and yet I hardly ever hear anything about them, and it seems they are "Central Wilmington Region" from what little I do hear. But they may be in a similar situation, except worse, what with their largest, and centrally located, population center (Raleigh), being siphoned from them (read: "Tarheel Sports Car Club"). You might even say that Triad siphons from them also. Additionally, I wonder if any SCR members hail from the edge of that orange area. If it's all so, you would naturally think that "Central Charlotte Region" would be a bit more vibrant than "Central Wilmington Region", but if they're going along "quite happily", as the Brits say, and I hope they are, more power to them. Hey, I'm not complaining at all, BTW, just making some observations in response. ;D

That's correct, Clint. Thank you for pointing out just how weak we are in those areas, when in fact, we shouldn't be.

I've been to several NCR events in Wilmington. They do a nice job, but their AX program is pretty green. They're now in the rebound period from a down-hill group.
I think that Clint is right, CCR and NCR do get siphoned off of by the other clubs in the area. However, it seems like they are serving a need, getting events to areas that CCR doesn't, for whatever reason.
All it takes is someone in that area to step up and want to be the event chair. That's the problem, like with most groups, nobody wants to do the work... they just want to complain about it and do nothing.
If I had the experience, and lived in one of the no-mans-land areas, I'd host something...
BTW, why does SCR step into CCR's area (namely Greenville / Spartanburg) and run events? Maybe CCR thinks that we don't want to go that far from home?

I've been to several NCR events in Wilmington. They do a nice job, but their AX program is pretty green. They're now in the rebound period from a down-hill group. Used to be a premier autocross club. I think that Clint is right, CCR and NCR do get siphoned off of by the other clubs in the area. However, it seems like they are serving a need, getting events to areas that CCR doesn't, for whatever reason. This is not a problem. It is a symptom of a problem. All it takes is someone in that area to step up and want to be the event chair. That's the problem, like with most groups, nobody wants to do the work... they just want to complain about it and do nothing. If I had the experience, and lived in one of the no-mans-land areas, I'd host something... This is certainly a viable part of addressing the problem. BTW, why does SCR step into CCR's area (namely Greenville / Spartanburg) and run events? Maybe CCR thinks that we don't want to go that far from home? Another symptom of a problem...at least to some degree. btw-the 2 BMW events are done with CCR's permission as I have been told. Also, BMW asked SCR to do the Eurofest event which led to SCR being granted the facility for 2 events per year. -------------------------------------- So. Does anyone know what the problem is? Or for that matter, is there a problem?

Thanks for the clarification on BMW. I figured that was it... I hoped that SCR wasn't stepping on CCRs toes and doing something behind CCRs back. So. Does anyone know what the problem is? Or for that matter, is there a problem? Yes, there is a problem. CCR has the same problem as every other club around, 10% (or less) of the people do 90% (or more) of the work. I'm not sure this thread is the place to discuss however...

Nope - probably isn't. But, let's look at the positives too regarding the "Central Charlotte Region". We have autocross events that are routinely "sell-outs"! Last one had over a 150 entrants and this was with less than spectacular weather. Usually our last event of the year has been a bit lighter than that. We had one event this year with 180 entrants - so, not too shabby. I guess either folks like coming to Charlotte - or we have a lot of active autocrossers in this area. May still be an area to improve upon, but the program is filling a need.

Here is the SEDIV map from SCCA.com...we are region #61... Whur zactly is CCR on this map??? And, wazzup with Laurens? Is the Michelin site off the sked fer good? To bring politics in, for what it's worth, NC has some planning/zoning laws that work against AutoX. NC is a very "progressive" state in regards to regional planning which is dedicated to sustainable growth and other measures that preclude building large open paved areas. In some cases, such as a meeting I attended in South End on New Urbanism, there is an open hostility toward cars. Let's hope the new "Uptown Baseball Stadium" doesn't come to pass as it will mean an end to Knights. If you haven't noticed, there is an industial park growing up around it. We need a member to win the Powerball, call JB, and build a Michelin like facility for about $10M of their winnings.
