I just looked in the SOLO Stock class list that was posted seperate from the '06 rule book. The Cobra that was there today is in AS.
Here's the Mustang list: Ford Mustang Cobra R not eligible for Stock Ford Mustang Cobra SVT ('03+) A Stock (AS) Ford Mustang in-line 6-cyl & 4-cyl / Mustang II 4-cyl & 6-cyl H Stock (HS) Ford Mustang Mach 1 ('03+) F Stock (FS) Ford Mustang V6 & Turbo 4-cyl (+ SVO) G Stock (GS) Ford Mustang V6 ('05+) FasTrack 1/05 G Stock (GS) Ford Mustang V8 ('05+) FasTrack 1/05 F Stock (FS) Ford Mustang V8 NOC F Stock (FS)
Gotta love the ambiguous SCCA rulebook!

And of course, I will continue to get beat in F Stock until this is figured out.

I just e-mailed Doug Gill for clarification.
As for getting beat, AS might be even worse!!

Official response from SCCA:
Hi, Rich,
The Ford Mustang Cobra SVT was re-classed to FS for 2006. The 2006 Solo Rules is the only official version and is also correct. My unofficial “cheat sheet” is incorrect – I must have missed it when I updated for 2006.
Sorry for any confusion. Hope this helps.

Dam, I guess I really did finish 2nd in FS. Oh well. I was only lacking R-comps, a 6 speed manual, and 130 horsepower!! I still had fun though. Hopefully the bimmer will be back next time ;D

...I did my homework before the first event...make sure I was in the right class And I certainly appreciate that. I was just giving you hell because, well, it's fun ;D And it is well taken. I know most of this was not directed at me, or my car. I have been beaten every event until now, and I still keep coming back for more. The culprit, as I see it, was the NTI student running FTD and FTD PAX. It got every body's undies in a bunch. Everyone knows that a Mustang should not be able to do that. My question after looking at the results, was that really an F Stock car or were there mods that nobody knew about? Or mayabe it could be the next (Name your favorite up and coming NASCAR star here). Also on correct classification, the red Dodge Dakota would have been 2nd Sunday if correctly classified in ESP. But who cares...see you at the 24hr event.

Not that I was involved in classing (It is the participants responsibility) but that car at the NTI event may have had a few items outside of stock - not sure. We had to tech so many cars in such a short time, I know a few things slipped by. Since it was mostly a run for fun, it wasn't a big deal (or so we thought) but it may have raised a few eyebrows as you state. I can say that the driver of that car did a great job last year...started out slow and by the end of the day was looking quite good. Supposedly he has run some events since, and may simply have been one of the more experiences NTI drivers at the event. 3rd place went to a student who has been at a previous NTI event as well and has had a chance to play at some non-point events. So, it may just be a demonstration that experience really does matter.

As we all should know, car classing is up to the participant. It's not the responsibility of the registrar, tech or event chair to put a car in the right class. All of the above will help class cars, but if the participant doesn't tell us what's been done, then we can't be held responsible.
I know that in the past I've told several people they were classed wrong (CAI running in stock, shock tower bar in stock on a car that didn't come with one - to name a few).
As for the NTI student in the Cobra taking FTD on Saturday, why not? Look at what else was running....

Weren't we running Limited Combined classes on Satuday anyway? There was a guy in a BMW e30 (325e) running in G Stock. The car had an S50 M engine in it. That's about 3 times the HP. I thought it was funny how he could "hang" the rear end out with that 115 hp eta engine. Point is - they weren't serious autocrossers and they had a good time. If anyone from that bunch of guys is serious, he'll find out what he's supposed to do.

That's funny. I thought this all was "just for fun". I'm enjoying myself after taking a 27+ year vacation from autoxing. I also bought the SVT because I liked it, not because 3 years after I got it, it was moved to FStock. Maybe in a year or 2, I will go crazy with springs, sway bars, etc. and move into ESP, but I think I still need to re-learn what I am doing.

Some people do it just for fun, some are deadly serious competitors. That one great thing about autox - it fits many different styles. As long as you're having fun, and better yet learning something, it's all good

Fun? Serious?....You mean I am supposed to choose? Dang...I just try to drive that rolling gas can as fast as I can and hope that I can beat my son on rare occasion. Usually I feel good if we are the "fastest Furd" (Ya hear me SoloERacer?). But, it is a blast and win, lose, draw it gets the old pump going and that is what it is all about.
Best part to me - believe it or not - is working with novices and helping them improve to where they enjoy the sport.
So it was great to see quite a few of the NTI folks come back for day 2 and participate.

OH...and of course, stay within the rule book for stock. At least my limited slip still works, somewhat.

umm...check out the "Holy Crap" thread on Page 2 of this forum and it could be worse..you could lift the front tire completely off the ground, providing you wid massive understeer (push to you NASCAR types). The benefit of lifting the rear is that you probably rotate a bit better, but wid RWD you will have trouble getting power down to the ground. With a "stock" car you are very limited to what you can do on suspension mods - shocks and tires are the main things to play with - sway bars can only be what came on your car model, etc (check the rule book b/c in FS you will have some "package" options you could play with on a Stang). As noted, there are a wide variety of Stangs that fall into F/S so you may find some "stock" pieces that could be changed and still stay in the rules.
But, you are running into the basic problem with many Stock classed cars - they were meant to be safe and feel good on the road, so there are some compromises in the suspension that are hard to overcome without moving out of that classification. check with other owners of similar models and see if any of them have suggestions on what to do - but you may be stuck with the "fire hydrant stance" if you want to stay in F/S.

If it's doing it primarily on braking/turn-in, a stiffer front swaybar would help. Stiffer spring would be better, but not legal for Stock.

As we all should know, car classing is up to the participant. It's not the responsibility of the registrar, tech or event chair to put a car in the right class. quote] For a regular autox I wholeheartedly agree. However, as part of our School for NTI maybe we should help class them before registration. I will also see that SCCA Brochures and website info is available to give them as well. At the risk of making more work pehaps a "goodie bag" could be given to them, brochures, pen, key ring, stuff like that. I apologize for not having the brochures at the ready at this last event....they're in the van somewhere...my bad. Mark Van Guy

I think the Waiver Lady could hand out the 'goodie bags". She could even help stuff 'em.
I'm already handing out a list of "instructions" w/this web site on it, & a self classing chart. This would actually make it easier. 1 bag with everything in it, instead of 2 papers.
