Things to note before/during a clutch job in a miata:
Lesson 1 learned- when reinstalling a bellhousing, it is extremely easy to catch the front O2 sensor wire between engine block and bellhousing. It is possible for afore-mentioned wire to become crushed enough upon proper torquing that wire insulation is sheared.
Lesson 2- Miatas have 2 fuse boxes, one in engine bay for the 'important stuff' such as starter, A/C, etc, you know the high amp stuff, and a second 'fluff' box under steering wheel for the 'other stuff' like headlights, radio, taillights, etc. Among the fuses in this lesser fuse box is a 15A one labeled only ENGINE.
Lesson 3- A car will crank, but not spark or power fuel pump without this ENGINE fuse.
Lesson 4- An O2 sensor wire grounded out to the engine block is a good way to instantly blow through a 15A fuse. 5 of them, in fact.
Lesson 5- Make sure one is up to date on their tetanus shot before embarking on clutch jobs in engine bays of go-cart sized vehicles.
Lesson 6- Do not keep a sledgehammer nearby when doing a clutch job, for the urge to pound in a door panel will be strong when one cannot figure out why a new clutch would cause a motor to not run.
Lesson 7- I don't care if you make $5 an hour or $50 an hour, it is worth the $400 to take said car in to shop with a lift. Rolling around on a cement floor when one is underweight is a certain way to get a coke-can-sized purple/yellow bruise on ones tailbone, shoulder blades, and hip bones.
