I had a quick question regarding camera mounts. Will a suction cup style camera mount pass tech or do you have to have one that is bolted in the car?

Normally we don't tech camera mounts. But, I would say that you would want anything in the car firmly mounted! A camera can be a relatively heavy device and once it is loose in the car it can cause you to be injured - or distracted >> which could cause a problem for the workers. Suction cup mounts are fine for radar detectors when you are going down a highway, but I wouldn't consider it adequate for use in an AX event.
Bolt or weld it in!

I have seen several suction cup mounted cameras used on the OUTSIDE of cars at several events, especially at Knights in the last year. never seen one come loose.

There are various vendors that sell and guarantee their suction cup-style mounts. I bought some specifically for autox. They work on the highway over 100mph...... tested.

I'm considering one of the mounts made by Chase Cam, but I didn't want to get it if tech would immediately reject it. It does come with a safety tether just in case.

If it's the Cruise Cam....I don't think it would be illegal. Those attach to the headrest...and I'm pretty sure they crash test those things.
Been looking at getting one myself.

Man, in my delirious state, I first read "I don't think it would be legal...and I'm pretty sure they crash test those things." was going, " "... haha. The thing I seem to remember from other autocrossing adventures, was that one thing that was specifically NOT allowed was for the passenger to hold a camera or video camera freestyle. I obviously don't know that for sure... but it makes sense. Good luck with all your camera adventures! I always thought it was neat to see the video from the rear wheelwell, lol.

I don't know of any rules in the Solo book but I think that the SCCA has some rules in the Roadracing General Compitition Rule book, stuff about safety straps, placement inside the passenger compartment etc., might be a good place to get some ideas. LilGunny
