How about some twisties nearer to home? Newtown Rd btween Hwy 75 and Hwy 16 isn't bad. Waxhaw-Indian Trail Rd has some good curves. Lawyers Rd from Hwy 51 to Hwy 601 makes a good ride. None of these roads can compare to the Dragon's Tail, but they are all we have have down in the flat lands. Anyone else know some good ones?

Bringing back old thread, but yes these roads have their good spots.

It is hard to get going on New Town Rd. anymore though. Everyone wants to do 50 mph.

I have found that anymore in Union county you need to be at least 10-15 miles from Hwy 74 to where there is sparse enough traffic to have real fun.

i would like to add bat cave road from old fort going south to hwy 9. it goes up the mountain then back down the other sidefor a ways. and all the roads out from there are pretty good too.
or you can just turn around!

If you wanna know the twisties, you need to ask someone who not only autocrosses their car, but races motorycles too like me.

We know where the good roads are. Find your local guy on a crotch rocket that has real gear on. I mean a real jacket, boots, gloves. These are the guys that usually ride twisties, not just stunts and wheelies. I wear my full suit when I ride.

Just ask that person where the best places are locally. He/she will know.

Try #9 south starting in downtown black mountain and finishing up at chimney rock. I auto x, hill climb and also ride h.d. and british bikes. my fav ride in winter not as much traffic .

bumping an old thread

I didn't realize 226 was a well-known spot. I've been through there once or twice () thinking I had ventured on a great secret. I actually found it by accident trying to run up the road to Mt. Mitchell.

I always went from the church end and end up passing Little Switzerland. Never saw any enthusiast-type cars or bikes up there.

Last time I went feeling particularly paranoid. First I came up on a couple walking.. OK weird. Then some kids running around near their mailbox.. hmm maybe not a good idea. And finally a mom pushing a baby stroller down the other lane... I mean c'mon.

I snuck away a couple Saturdays ago - ran up 226a, across the BRP and then back down NC80. Cloudy at the bottom, bright sun at the top. I think I met a total of 5 vehicles on the whole run up and down. Probably not so lucky in the summer.

Got another one ...74A from Asheville through Lake Lure & on down to 74 between Shelby & I26...Very pretty with alot of places to stop & enjoy...& it's pretty close....We like to go on out to Shadyside for the drag races.[between Shelby & Gaffney on the way home]....Never know what might show up out there on a Sunday night....clarise

Don't know if anyone is still following this, just saw it today. To more specifically followup on US74A, definitely add to the list: Hickory Nut Gap on US 74A, between Fairview, NC and Bat Cave, NC on the Rutherford County / Buncombe County line. A very nice hillclimb of around 1:15 through a series of switchbacks. Can stay in your lane or crossover slightly in winter months (no leaves). I practice there a frequently. Go up, turn around, come down. Go up, turn around, come down. 2 or 3 times is usually enough. Simply take 74A home from Asheville to CLT. You will be on it before you get to Lake Lure. Not to mention the fun curves between Bat Cave / Lake Lure and Rutherfordton !

Mockingbird Lane, Macadenville, NC - Wilkerson Blvd

Only last about 5-6 minutes and you need to be on your toes the whole time. Almost lost a pretty red 911 in there once Local car salesman use it for test-drives, drive it on the regular in Lucy. Only issue is the blind corners are near driveways so during the day you have to be extra cautious about looking through the trees and being ready to "Whoa Up!!"
