Please don't mind the odd title to this thread, but I think it gets my point across very well.

Some of you may notice the time this was posted and say what the heck! JByrd I am hear now because I just got home after being stranded on the side of the road. I was driving down the road about 60mph when I noticed the engine in my car starting to knock. I looked at my oil psi gauge and it read less than 10! I pulled over and checked the oil level, it was ok. I looked for leaks, none. So then after sitting there and thinking for a bit, I remembered that a friend had told me about some bad misshaps with fram oil filters. So, for the heck of it I deceided to first change the filter and see if I could drive it home. I got a new purolator pure one filter, put it on and started up the engine. The oil pressure gauge jumped right up. The fram that I had on there was locked up! Driving home even with full oil psi the engine still knocked. The damage was done, my engine will need to be rebuilt.

Thanks for the info LM. I haven't looked at it yet, but I will later. I've been using the fram X2 filters and the Purolater Plus One filters. I think I'll stick to the Plus Ones.
And thanks for your responses guys, this thread should be kept active to get the word out to as many people as posible.
DON'T USE FRAM OIL FILTERS.

They make only limited applications for BMW, and the BMW forum guys are always saying to stay away from them, but I didn't know why.

Yup - good thread and good info. Sadly, it seems that the filter selection for the Fiesta is very very limited and Fram is one of only a few who make filters for it. May have to just order one online.
As far as Fram Filters having a high suck factor - this appears to extend beyond cars. A tractor supplier also cautions against using Fram Filters on their hydraulic systems as it can cause cavitation - which will ruin a pump pretty quickly.
Roadboy - sorry about your car! I hope you can get it all together quickly. I'll see you at CMP (sadly I won't be able to enjoy the PDE - something about needing brake lights, wipers, and a few other things that were optional on the Fiesta-da). But, I will be at registration and helping out wherever I can.

Just in case your curious, I thought I'd mention what im working on. I'm parking my 94 civic for now. I don't have the money needed to fix it in time for the PDE. I am instead going to attempt to finish a project I've had for five years. Yea I know sounds crazy. I have the first car I ever purchased. Its a 1985 Honda CRX. It is a dx model which means it was carbureted. A year after I got the car I made it drivable and upgraded the carburetor. It lasted about 2 months before the engine blew. The fuel pump had given out, so the engine went lean and partially melted a piston. After that I parked the car. About 6 months ago, I started putting together parts to get it running again. I am installing a fuel injected engine that will be running the computer system from a newer honda car, a 95 model (OBD1). So I have managed to get all the mechanics and hardware installed. Now it is a matter of making the custom wire harness for the engine control systems. I had guessed it would take a week to do the wiring. I have 3 days. If you notice the time of this post, I have just finished the working on all the hardware. I will now get a few hours of sleep then start on the wiring. And back to the subject, I hate fram

Since then I moved to N.Y. , got married, moved back south ,and am currently rennovating a house for my new bride and me.So far my project has 1,250 miles on a trailer without turning a wheel. hopefully before the end of the season it will be one of the "fast Fords" nitro is so afraid of. hehehehehee, James And to keep this on track, I have decided to trash all my fram filters. Have always used them in the past as they were original equipment on Fezzais. You know, the tattoo you need. P. S. you get an exalt for just being you.

Well. I am convinced Frams suck...OK, I said it..Now to the fun stuff. Roadboy I am doing something a little similar in that I am installing EFI on the Saab. I am using a MegaSquirt system - which is aftermarket. The Blue Volvo P1800 that you see at the events is equipped with one and seems to work really well. Good Luck!

Thats right I think I remember the owner of the 1800 mention he was using the MegaSquirt system. He seems to be pretty happy with it. Good luck on the install. If you need an extra experienced hand installing the EFI, let me know. I'll help any time I can.

I am thrilled to see that eventually all threads end up where they belong. It may take a few posts to get it on track, but eventually Tweety (or other quality postHO) provides the appropriate pic.
Good one there...I will never forget now that Fram Filters Suck!
