Crow Mountain is strategically situated between 8 major SCCA SEDiv Regions: TVR (Huntsville), ALABAMA (Birmingham); CHATTANOOGA; TENN (Nashville); ATLANTA; EASTERN TENN; CENTRAL CAROLINAS; and South Carolina. Crow Mountain Hill Climb serves up a challenging 1.85 mile uphill course with a 720 foot elevation change featuring 7 hairpin switchbacks nestled between a ¼ mile twisty drag race to the first turn, a ½ mile section with 3 separate “S” features, some 1/8 mile sprints, and a 6/10 mile high speed curved section with two blind left-handers. The course is fully lined with ditches, granite rock faces, and large trees which offer no margin for error. Most drivers say it was the fastest and scariest two minutes of their life. The Hill Climb site is located in Jackson County on Alabama County Highway 33 about 9 miles north of Scottsboro, AL. Scottsboro is conveniently located on Alabama Route 72 in the northeastern part of Alabama. Overnight camping is permitted but there are no facilities. No open fires are permitted. Craig you drive home a very good point, if all of us who can do not support these events how can we expect to keep hill climbing alive and growing. Ray and I are both comming and both driving. Still most likely with only one hand, so I'm pretty sure I'll come in last but that really doesn't matter. We need something to celebrate on this weekend while we remember our friend Rich, and that's my birthday weekend. So come on folks, let's go racing!

Let's pump up the numbers gang!! Get some momentum before we start those big projects this winter. Bummer that it conflicts with Petit, but hey I would rather drive than watch! In fact, I am thinking of watching night practice on Thursday at Road Atlanta and some racing on Friday morning - then heading to Crow Mountain.

The early registrations are fantastic. Crow is shaping up to be the best ever. Thak you all for your support.
I may even bring the Cutchins FF out for a few runs. It has some hill climbs in its blood.

The FF was showing a big puddle of oil under the engine when I got back from Barber. Without the time to remove the engine again and figure out the leak, it will not make Crow.
We now have ~30 drivers registered and I know of a few more who have said they are coming. There is always room for more.
Camping is available in the paddock area and the camaraderie between the workers and drivers is fantastic.
It will be great to see a bunch of old friends at this event.

Chad... THAT was the idea! TVR / AL Region have their own corner working/flagging chief. This will be the first event Don has attended where he did not WORK in ages. For all he does for us... he is DUE! ;D
He and Elvira should get along fine. I put a decal on the bottom of the car that reads : "If you can read this ... please turn me over."

Don not able to come... and Darryl got bit by a dog and had to get stitched up... so he can't come. TJ got swamped with class load and tests (Thermodynamics) so he's not able to come... I respect his priorities. So...I'm headed down tomorrow by myself. Hate that... first Crow that Elvira has not run in 4 years.

Many thanks to the many CCR members who made it to Rich Shafer Memorial Crow Mountain Hillclimb for 2011. Once again an amzing year with beautiful weather, crisp cool mornings, and yummy cider. Plus many thanks to the drivers from the SS who didn't have to write up any incident reports for the 2nd year in a row! CONGRATS TO THE 2011 King of the Hill Heikki Rinta-Koski
