Next year's sponsor... Staypuff Marshmellows.. ;D Jedi threw a connector rod through the block... dumped oil on the headers. I was a fireball for a bit but courseworker put me out. Engine is gone and some fiberglass charred but nothing too bad. That's racing! Last race of the season and ... sure was fun 'til the rubber band broke. Thanks TVR for a great Time Trial event... TJ took CSP class and about 6 new drivers got their FULL TT licenses including Rick Burris, our hillclimb race doctor... Congrats! Attachments:

Well hang in there Ted, motor should be straightforward to change and the rest is cosmetics... or is it?

I was in need of cosmetics before the event... The fiberglass cowling is no biggie...it never burned through. I will need engine and carbs. Really not as bad as it looked. I won't be going back with CBR 1100 engine with titanium rods. I've got a few ideas. We'll see how things look for Christmas! If Santa bases things on how good I've been this year...I may be replacing it with a Briggs & Stratton....

Thanks... appreciate the offers of help! I am lucky to have a motorcycle shop sponsor and some winter months ahead. The engine is already out and the fiberglass is in the floor of my garage ready to begin.... new paint scheme will NOT involve flames of any kind.

Everyone knew about your lack in cosmetics side, but I never noticed issue with the car Is CBR 1100 worse in car use than others? I thought at least the 1000 cc one was preferred because it doesn't need dry sump like Hayabusa does. Or after last weekend findings, maybe it does. Didn't you have spares available? Go through those first before I talk you into turbo miata driveline. hrk

Any plans to change fire bottle mounting location to in the cockpit?

1000c is plenty for a 750 pound car. No miata turbo should be put on a soda straw chassis! ;D No firebottle in cockpit... the cockpit is tight and I don't want ANYTHING hampering me getting in and out. I'm more concerned with getting trapped after a dirt track incident 20 years ago! Access to the firebottle would have made no difference in this case and car was being hit with extinguisher before I even had my belts undone. I am considering some changes including : 1. a ceramic header coating so IF engine throws a rod and oil dumps, it won't be igniting on a header. I found one place that claims you can hold the header in your hand while engine is running. 2. No more yellow face shield on helmet. Great visibility while driving but can't see flames at ALL. 3. No more titanium rod HIGHLY modified engines. Expensive, sensitive and past owner said he rebuilt engine after every other race. Not my cup of tea. 4. Plan all future fires to be close to course workers. The car ran great...I was looking forward to my hot session without the wing on top and with a few adjustments we made based on data from saturday's 2 sessions. Now? We'll have to wait for spring... ; )

All I can say is there better be a Star Wars related paint job on a Formula JEDI! If you need ideas, call me I saw the email that VIR is having a "Crash & Burn" school for corner workers to learn how to deal with various types of car fires in February. I'll be attending it in case you choose to burst into flames near me. You should encourage other corner workers to do it too

Wish I had the camera in the car. Coming down the back straight and seeing Ted's car in flames was a very scary experience. Luckily he pulled over and Miles Phillips was right there with a fire extinguisher to save Ted and the Jedi.
