Did anyone notice the glaring lack of representation for Time Trials and Hillclimbing in new 2012 SCCA Calendar?
I was under the impression TT/Hillclimb events were part of Club Racing. You would never know ..............

It should be in there but... in their defense, WE (SEDIV) are only one division and are one of the few that has a truly active and involved TT/Hillclimb program. ... and we don't make our schedule concrete until Jekyll which is two weeks from NOW. We do plan on doing some advertising for SEDIV Time Trial events and our Dragon event... stay tuned! We'll spread the word and I suspect 2012 Chasing the Dragon in May will be THE largest Hillclimb we have seen since...ooohhh... mid ninetys! The August Chasing the Dragon II could be even larger...

It should be in there but... Actualy, I was referring to the annual calendar that comes along with the January edition of SportsCar. Road Racing, Solo II, and Rallycross got some facetime. You would have thought Hillclimbing would have been able to have at least one month.

I noticed the same thing Dave. There was good right up in the magazine a few months back on the dragon, but very little else. I have been a member for going on 10 years now and cannot recall a single feature on the East Coast HC scene in Sports Car. Maybe this year . . .

We(the organizers) have to take some of the blame for lack of coverage. A good job was done to send a write-up and pics to our SEDiv. columnist and she got it in. "We" just need to stay on top of things. In fact, now would be a good time for "us" to contact SportsCar and get on Dragon Coverage...I get the feeling I just volunteered...

In regard to the printed calendar sent out by SCCA. At the SE Div mtg at Jekyll this past weekend, I was able to ask Terry Ozment of the National Office (VP Club Racing) about why, yet again, there was not one picture of a Hill climb in the calendar. Terry aknowledged its been a few years since there was one and made a note about rectifying that.
SO - this year, if you get a great photograph that well represents the spirit of hill climbing, send it in to the National Office and maybe it will get printed. As Terry said, if they don't get a good photo, they can't include it.
I will also note that Jeff Dahnert, CEO and President of SCCA, attended the Time Trials session on Saturday afternoon and listened to all that the division was doing in the TT program. I think several of us down there impressed on him the enthusiasm for hill-climbs within our division.

Ditto what Martin has written. As of the RE's meeting/breakfast, Steve reports that he has the ear of the Club Racing boss (Terry). She and Jeff now understand how important and active the SEDiv TT program really is. What we all must now do is SUPPORT all of the scheduled TT events at every location. Our hillclimbs in our division are very unique. There are hill climbs held in other parts of the country but I'm not sure any of them can match our level of history, participation and enthusiasm in SEDiv. If we can generate enough interest at all driver levels in these events, we can only grow. Let's back up what Martin started and Dave questions to get our part of our sport into every publication we can and definitely on the SCCA calendar!

One of the issues with the SCCA calendar is that they lock the schedules down in November. We just learned that but too late to affect the 2012 calendar. This year, we will be working to get the schedule locked down before that November date.
We do have a schedule for 2012:
2012 SEDIV TIME TRIALS SCHEDULE
Apr 14-15 TVR/AL Talladega Grand Prix Raceway (PDX/TT/TT School) May 19 ATL Road Atlanta (TT Sat, PDX Sun) Jun 9 ATL Atlanta Motorsports Park Short Course (PDX/TT) Jun 10 ATL Atlanta Motorsports Park Long Course (PDX/TT) June 23-24 CCR Chasing the Dragon Hill Climb Aug 4-5 CCR Chasing the Dragon Hill Climb II Sep 29-30 TVR Crow Mountain Hill Climb Oct 27-28 TVR/AL Talladega Grand Prix Raceway (PDX/TT) Nov 10-11 Bucc Roebling Road (PDX/TT)
Atlanta Motorsports Park will be a double event with points for each day. The short course (1.5 miles) will be run on Saturday with the full course (2 miles) run on Sunday.
The two Dragon Hill Climbs will have different courses.
There are 9 Championship Points Events in 2012. Drivers must score points in 5 events to qualify for the 2012 TT Championships.

Just went through and updated the family calendar. A quick hail mary that all my daughter's softball tournaments don't conflict. I was watching some of the youtube vids of Chasing the Dragon the other night. Looks incredible!

If there are nine events on the 2012 calendar and one of those is a double points event doesn't that make ten points events?
