JUNE 23-24 - NEW DATE FOR DRAGON HILLCLIMB!

The May 5 & 6 dates that were planned for the Chasing the Dragon Hillclimb had to be changed. The Minis on the Gap were on the same weekend and accommodations were booked out from Fontana area to Robbinsville. That meant if the date was kept, our drivers, workers and spectators would be forced to stay further from the event and it would not help Robbinsville Tourism. Central Carolinas Region officers worked with Robbinsville and Graham County to find a better date for our event.



The Chasing the Dragon Hillclimb will be held JUNE 23-24!

The asphalt repairs will be finished by June 1st and the roads and guard rail areas will be trimmed and cleaned the Thursday before the event! We have some other surprises this year you will enjoy so make your plans now to attend. We are expecting double the drivers and double the spectators... this means you need to book your accommodations early as possible. The following link shows hotels/ motels and rentals available in the area. (Be sure to press where it says "Click here" for campgrounds, hotels, resorts, etc.) Please look closely at descriptions to be certain they are close to Santeetlah and Robbinsville areas.The rental rates for many of the cabins and chalet rentals are $125 to $175 per night and can sleep 6 to 8. We strongly recommend groups going in together on these deals!

NOTE : We will be taking care of courseworkers accomodations. We plan to put our workers up mostly at Microtel and will have a free site at Rattler Ford Campground at the foot of the hillclimb site for those who wish to campout with tents on Santeetlah Lake.

The Friday night party AND the saturday night dinner will be held in Downtown Robbinsville this year! Thanks for being a part of the Hillclmb and SCCA! We are looking forward to a GREAT event and seeing you ... on the Dragon!

I hope to have things rolling in a few weeks... have to accommodations and supps and sanctions done and approved first. Stay tuned.... this is going to be a lot of fun. ;D

Where can someone park an RV with Race trailer? Does the paddock area support that?

You will have room to park an RV and race trailer only if it is less that the distance between the guard rail and the pavement (usually about 73"). The campground at the entrance to the road has rental space and you can drop your car along the road which is the paddock. If you need your trailer, there are areas that it can squeeze into along the road. There is no overnight camping allowed along the site road. Open trailers will probably be placed at the top of the hill again like last year.

A follow up to Craig's question:
Can you post the name and contact info of the campground at the entrance or a link to their site for more information?

The campground near the entrance is a small state park deal, with VERY limited RV space. I have a 32' class A and there is no way you could get it on a site. Looks like mostly for pop-ups or tents, and you would have at least a two mile walk/drive, to get to it. I just stay in a Hotel and drive to the site.

My computer crashed...will try to give more complete answer soon. This question was answered on tvr/tac forum. There are rv sites on the lake... Rattler Ford is primitive only (tents) and Blair is right about the other campground being hard to get rv in and out. BUT there are rv spots around the lake at the foot of the hill and there are 2 campgrounds with utilities nearby. The forest services will not let us stay on the mountain over night but we can leave cars & trailer there Friday and Saturday night with a swecurity guard. I'll have more info soon. Thanks!

I will be placing a list of lodging opportunities on the dragon website... we have received info on a number of rentals, chalets, etc. Wide range of pricing... and even some of the nicest is quite economical!

The County Council passed on their congratulations for SCCA awards and said "we are looking forward to having you in June and August!"
