it felt good on the first run, then felt like hot garbage after than. I cant imagine how yall on "STREET TIYAS" felt I went out for a re-run without cooling my tires too much. I could actually feel them overheat in the sweeper and the grip just fell away.

I left my setup as stiff as it was down at the Concrete in Arkansas, and the car was very drive able at Black Lake.. A little tail happy but was still able to put the power down.

That is the way the Black Lake is. I messed up by running my old soft setup down there. I should have ran my normal setup, oops. The car was very loose for a change. The site is also designed for wet weather driving Such a fantastic site!

What's the reason we can't come and go on the access road? It's plenty wide enough... I know it's a Michelin rule, but curious for their reasoning. Also why did we have to drive on the gravel and not on the pavement if the event was stopped? There seemed to be enough room there.
Just wondering.

Yea... the thing with Michelin is all there tracks have a direction and they are strict about their movements. It's all about safety with them. When we go down on Fri. as organizers and set up people we have to go to the guard shack and hear the safety speech before they let us on site. Just more safety. It is kinda a pain in the rear but that is the way it has always been even back in the old days of 2004-2005. Sooo.

It makes me feel a little bit better that some of you vets thought the grip was lacking. My car felt very tail-happy in spots (especially the big sweeper), but I just chalked that up to driving a RWD car for the first time.

It seems like more of a control thing rather than for our safety. Less likely for someone to go wandering.

It has been a very long time since I ran on race tires and I thought my old, Federals did surprisingly well.

for me it was the same as Zmax after the sealer ... there I was first run group and didn't seem to have any problems with grip , same-o Sat ... no real problems with lack of grip .... guess I'm not driving fast enough .. proof being that the fastest STS car there ran a 51.xxx and all I managed was a 54.8

I thought there was a lot more grip there than ZMax.... of course it could be the SCCCCCCCCCRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH at Zmax that throws off my estimation.

ZMax has way more grip than Black Lake. its not even close.
Don't go lumping ZMax in with the push in, loose off experience with Black Lake. It's easy to overdrive when the car doesn't react like you are use to it feeling. I had to back my braking up to a ridiculous point.
And that rumor about paving it is not a new rumor, it has got to be a 3 year rumor at least.

Yeah the lack of grip was definitely noticeable. Near the ends of my run group at about my 5th or 6th, three extra do to re-runs, my car was getting a little squirrelly especially at the slalom before the big sweeper and the slalom before the finish. Definitely could tell that the car was trying to slide the back end around. A lot of fun, but could have hampered my times. Though probably not enough to to catch Feeney still haha.

I feel the grip level is pretty similar at both...On street tires.

When my car pushes into a corner and is loose coming off, that is due to lack of grip. And I do not get that anywhere else but White Lake.
I ran 2nd group at White Lake and I also ran 2nd group in the Shootout at zMax on Stret Tires and on the sealer and it felt amazing. And my car feels amazing at Dixie Classic, Metrolina, Danville or anywhere else I've run.

I've been great at Danville, Metrolina, the Spartanburg Expo Center, CMP, and LJVM when I've run this year with the same tires and setup.... but ZMax has nothing.

Last year, I thought black lake had more grip in early runs as compared to Z-Max. This year, after the sealer, third run group, at the EVO shootout, on saturday, there was more grip at ZMAX than I have ever felt in my car EVER! I have worker confirmation of lifting BOTH inside tires, 245 hoosiers. I have to put all the pre qualifications because we all know how the surface can change over the course of a day or even a run group. however, now if anyone ever asks me about ZMAX, I tell them there is more grip there than anywhere.

I don't get it. Last year, everyone hated the sealed part of the track. They tried to keep us off of it at the CCR events and NCAC. But now, this year, through some alchemical magic, sealer has become the wonderful thing to have? 99% of the people I've had tell me "The grip there is fine.. I don't know what you're talking about" are on Hoosiers. I welcome someone to come co-drive my MINI and tell me there's plenty of grip. I tell people ZMax is like driving on ice.... really really loud tire-squealing ice.

The sealer for me at Zmax wasn't bad once we had some rubber down. On one of my runs I went out of the groove at a one of the higher speed sections and the rear end snapped out without warning. Went for a fun double spin.

I think we have 2 different sealers at zMax. The original sealer was definitely less grippy than the regular asphalt, but the new sealer feels great, until it rains and you go off line. Than you spin 5 times like Jadrice did at the Shootout.
At Black Lake, you better be fast on your first or second run. Because the grip goes away the hotter it gets and the hotter the tires get. And with all the re-runs this weekend, that made it very difficult to put a good time down. We should see better grip when SCR goes back in November.
