except you wouldn't be competing ... you'd just be there, driving, and hopefully at least having fun .. but you defiantly wouldn't be competing Walter - that happens at just about every autocross. Most classes have "the car", "the tire" and "the setup", and if you don't follow the formula, you have an uphill battle to be competitive. We could easily make a list of the classes/cars we're talking about. So, they can do whatever they want with the rules. It'll just shuffle the deck a little bit.

Why don't they just set a durometer rating since from what I'm gathering here is that treadwear is an abitrary number? If they don't punch at a minimum number they are not legal. They did this in spec tire classes when I ran karts. ie, Burris Tire sponsored a series I ran in. Our tires had to punch at a 55. We could treat the tire but it still had to punch at a 55. This really uposet the handling as we normally ran our lefts at a 8-10 point lower punch that the rights.

But they already can compete like that in the Tire class we have now. And if we add the RT* classes, what's the motivation for jumping out of the inclusive tire class we have right now to go to under-subscribed classes? But they could also compete in any of the regular open classes we had even before tire class. There is nothing in the rules that says you *must* have "race" tires to compete in *ANY* class. You could run A-Mod on 500 treadwear Sears all-season Weather-Handlers if the car is otherwise legal for that class. Tried that once. Ran a C/P Camaro on all seasons, it was fun but not very productive.
