Hey, I am new to this and looking into whether this type of racing is what I need to be looking into.
I have a NASCAR late model, full tube chassis car with a plastic body - nothing stock by any definition. Running it on weekly short tracks is getting to be a little too much money, time and everything else. If I can't sell it this winter, I am thinking of using it to do a little left and right hand racing. I think club racing is the place I would need to be with a little auto cross to fill in the time between.
Anyone have any thoughts? Is there anyone else racing a car like this with you guys? I am sure auto crossing it would be some fun, but I am not quite ready to give up completely on side by side racing.
Thanks, SB

Check out the GTA rules on the www.SEDivRacing.org site. I expect that it will fit there. If not, it should fit into the SPO class (Super Production- Over 2.5 liters). Butch Kummer, who is out of the Atlanta region, and who also holds a position at SCCA National is one of the folks to talk to. John Finger from Greenville also has (or has had) quite a number of NASCAR-type cars (Winston Cup, Sprint Cup, Nationwide Cup, ARCA, Busch, etc). You may want to contact the V8Stockcars guys as well. They should have their website and/or e-mail address listed in the Road Racing section of this board. Scott

SCCA has classes as mentioned where your car would be competitive. Just for reference last week you would have been running Charlotte Motor Speedway under the lights with us. Welcome to the madness and let us know if you need more information. GTA and other regional class rules for classes to run are here. sedivracing.org/2012_Regional_Class_Rules.pdf

Thanks for the replies. Racing this monster on half mile ovals is just a little more than I can afford, but stepping back to dirt doesn't feel like a lot of fun, so I am looking for other options. Plus, I turned 37 this summer. After 14 years of oval track racing, maybe its time to grow up and turn right.

While falling somewhere between AutoX and wheel-to-wheel.... there's a Time Trial coming up in a few weeks you may be interested in down at CMP. Cheap and easy way to get your feet wet with turning right! www.scsportscar.com/calendar/?event_id=124

I've looked into the things you guys pointed my toward and I now have some idea what is going on. My car is definately a GTA by the SE Div rules and its easy to see where I would race with the V8 Stock Car guys.
O looked at couple event information pages and, near as I can tell, the club race entry fees are 250-300 per race. Am I reading that right? That seems like a pretty steep entry fee.
Anyway, I think I have the class figured out, just trying to figure out exactly what type of event I could run at and what I couldn't.
