Hey guys
I know I'm the chief of Trash talking, but I hope someone out there would open up their door to allowing me to co drive. Due to wedding cost. Things are tight. I'd be more than willing to allow a co drive for next year and one free invite to the wedding of the year!
Thanks guys
Travis

I know the GTI is no Mini, buy my doors are open, brother. Unless you get offered a cooler car.

I would but I already have a co driver. Although, I am sure a nice set of ZII's could convince me, uhhh, or her otherwise. Since I have another car to drive.

I'm trying to sell the zII to pay for my rehearsal dinner. Who knew the grooms parents were supposed to pay that. My parents didn't get that memo. But I'll give ya 10% off for a seat in the Stc car

Its a manual. I'm going to do as many as I can but money and time gets a bit tight with a 1 1/2 year old at home, so I really don't know how many events I'll make.
So you looking for a full ride this year?

I thought you were just talking about zmax. You're more than welcome to drive my car for a couple events but I honestly couldnt swing the tire expense for that many events. I was hoping to make them last a couple seasons.

Hmmm, I will have to think about that. I actually need to talk to Lisa since it is her car. But then I would have to drive the XP car with a way worse PAX.

Sorry Travis, not looking good for you co-driving Lisa's car. Looks like we may not be able to afford any rubber for it yet. So we may both be in the XP car. Although, I am trying to read through all these rules and see for sure if it is an XP car. It could be an SM or a FP car? Not sure. If it is one of those, then way better PAX.

Bro don't loose sleep on it. The fact that you ever tried to make something happen means a lot! It looks like I might have a solution to my own problem. Ill know for sure this week. My biggest issue is I have surgery Wednesday on my eye. So I hope it's (the eye) is ready to race. How big is the change in pax from xp to sm?

SM is .867 and XP is .901. So really big difference. That is around 2.5 seconds on a 60 sec course.

Wow that is a big time difference. Take off the mods that bump you.

I think that would involve removing the turbo. So.... No!

Since when does just adding a turbo bump you all the way to xp. Andy put a supercharger/turbo (forget which one because it has a funny look to it. No offense) and he went to ssm. So what is bumping you out of there?

Andy supercharged his s2k.

Maybe I just can't find that I am allowed to do it. I guess I need to read it again. If I am allowed to drive that car in SM then I am doing that for sure.

Basically I have an 02 wrx motor with turbo in my 2000 impreza 2.5rs. If anyone knows what class the car would be in, then let me know. I know that suspension matters too, but I think it would be legal in whatever class the motor swap would qualify for.
Josh's 6 cylinder 2.5rs is in XP, so I assumed I was probably the same.

That is correct. Travis, it is a centrifugal supercharger, so it does look a lot like a turbo.
There are a few things that, if done to my car, would throw me into XP as well. I would have to read the rules to know exactly what those are. Maybe removing the passenger seat?
Edit - I know that suspension modifications are unlimited in both SM and XP, so suspension stuff wouldn't make a difference. I read something about motor swaps, but it was all very wordy and confusing (like much of the rule book).

So then where is the supercharged part written in the rules? I haven't noticed anything about forced induction? I know that if I had an 04 impreza 2.5rs I could swap in an sti motor and be fine. Or even an 02 would be fine cause that is all on the GD chassis. I have the earlier GC chassis so The problem is that the turbo motor was not made during the same model year, so I am not sure if it is legal? I have had some people tell me that it would be fine and legal, and some say that it wouldn't be? So I don't know? If it is SM legal then I think I will have to put the door cards and some other interior stuff back in, but that is no big deal. Now you guys are getting me excited that it might be SM legal. That would be the best news ever. Well, for me at least.

SM is pretty much any engine swap within the same brand with a full interior. Suspension in SM is limited to stock mounting points so tube chassis is out. You should be ok in SM.

Phillip is correct. Your car is SM legal assuming you don't have an ALK or other subframe brace that's not SP legal.
The reason Butterscotch is in XP is the lack of interior. Sm requires a full interior, but allows removal of the back seats, back seat belts, radio, speakers, stuff like that. Otherwise, carpet and trim need to remain.
SM allows open engines as long as they're from the same manufacturer, open transmissions (no manufacture restrictions there), open diffs, open wheels/tires, open suspension as long as it attaches to the body in the same place, open brakes, you can replace the hood/trunk, remove the sunroof, super light seats, remove the air bags, aftermarket steering wheel, replace bumper covers, flare fenders, and add aero.

Sweet, so you should be good. And the Mod rules definitely touch on super/turbocharged applications. I remember the part about if it is super/turbo'd you have to add 1.4L to the effective displacement of the motor for all rules and regulations. So my car gets treated like a 3.4L now; not that it makes much of a difference as most of the rules tied to displacement concern minimum vehicle weight restrictions, and my car is a pig already.

Sad to say, but I know the SM rules pretty well since I've lived there for the past 6 years. If you guys have questions, come find me at the ZMax event and I can answer them. Tall, blond, scruffy guy. I'll either be there in a white STS miata or a VW of some sort.
