I had a really good time today i cant believe this was my first AutoX since October so it had been a hard few months off
Here is one of my better runs of the day between the cool surface and my tires I felt like i was in a straight RWD car all day

Chilly weather made Tire heat a rare commodity. Managed to get a little hot-lapping the car with Mr. Duckles.
I was also able to demonstrate that it is possible to (briefly) drift Mrs. Duckles Automatic Bimmer. :-)

I had a lot more fun than I expected at that site. Thanks to everybody who put the event on and kept it running smoothly and safely. You made it look easy, but I know it never is.

Thanks for coming Mina! We didn't see the bushing while cleaning up but hopefully someone picked it up.
We'll let you know if we hear anything!

i felt like a giant ass today!
i wanted to say thanks to everyone that tried to help me with my speed3 this afternoon. i was embarrassed to know so little about my car. here i roll up with my wheels dipped and the car all murdered knowing squat about it besides where the air goes in and out and where the rolly things are. what an idiot!
i just wish that i could have known something to look or listen for to possibly prevent whatever did happen. hopefully we will know tomorrow. i feel unqualified to drive a daily-driver in AutoX. i knew there were risks that's not the issue. i want to learn and that's why i came to CCR and TSCC but this is ridiculous with today and a continuing, mystery clunking sound. related? who knows?
maybe i should step up my knowledge more before i run again. any thoughts or suggestions for me here and im not looking for sympathy. i monitored everything that i had to the best of my knowledge. i didn't have oil pressure gauge which i know that i should have. any help would be appreciated. i feel like a loser.

Wait... what happened? Did something go down with your car during work group 4? I was working corner 3 and seem to remember thinking that your car was making some odd noises, but I thought they were suspension related...

Hey Will - don't sweat it. We're here to help if we can!
Believe me when I tell you, not everybody at these events is a Motorhead. Even those that ARE addicted motorheads have issues at events. There are more than a few autocrossers who don't do their own repair/upgrade work.
I also heard a clunking while I was course-working. My 30' diagnosis is either the exhaust rattling around because of a broken hanger, maybe suspension.
I daily drive my Auto-x car too. (less so recently due to work travel) You do need to be meticulous with maintenance, but you'll figure all that out.

Had a great time. Tore up those all seasons. I realy want thank everyone involved who put this together. ran smoothly got a lot of runs in. I especially want to thank MIke for showing me that going slower and closer is faster. When I finally got it though my thick skull, it knocked off 1 sec. from all my previous times. and I think there was still more to be had. Can't wait for the new tires to get here this week.

Stephen - I hate to call you by your last name, it rhymes with my own! - I want to say thanks again - I know it must have been a bit of a PITA for T & S to paw through all those times. Really appreciate it.

Really appreciate it. His first name is the same as mine, but I refuse to call him by it because he spells it wrong. You should refuse on the same grounds for spelling his last name wrong too! INGRAM! STOP SCREWING UP PEOPLE'S NAMES!!!

Hey Will, Alec told what happened man. And that sucks to hear. We'll help to get you fixed up no problem. If anyone knows how to work on a Speed3 it's Alec. Anyways, like Eric said constant meticulous maintenance. In regards to oil; I run Amsoil top shelf full synthetic and Amsoil filter. Oil that has been proven to last 15k-20k between changes on regular driving and probably 7.5k-10k for a car thats being tracked/autocrossed. Some of the best oil you can get. And I still change it every 3k-3.5k miles and/or after 2 events; whicever comes first. Overkill? Probably, but I sleep better knowing its constantly fresh oil. I daily my car as well and you can ask the Mazda crew (Alec, Lambert, Hooper, etc..) that I am constantly keeping an eye for things. Just keep a good eye out and do maintenance on it in probably shorter intervals. Always monitor things like oil, coolant, brakes, and tires. It's the struggle of daily-ing your autocross car. Or Autocrossing your daily. Either way. just constant attention and you'll be set. And always keep extra fluids on hand. I always have half to a whole quart of oil and coolant on hand at any given moment in my car. Better safe than sorry.

I bought my CR with 2,100 miles on it to daily drive and autocross. I just hit 64,000 miles, and the Torque Monster is still rolling along fine. And that is with very fast dudes co-driving it with me for the last 3 years. Keep up on the maintenance and your car will be fine doing both. And I do not have an oil pressure gauge, just a light.
Will, if you want a someone to look at your car, I recommend Mark Marske from Modern Nissan - Lake Norman, he works on my car and many CCR autocross cars and keeps them tip top. I would never trust some random dealer tech to look at my car at all. Just because you have a job as a mechanic doen't mean you know what you are doing.

Wait... what happened? Did something go down with your car during work group 4? I was working corner 3 and seem to remember thinking that your car was making some odd noises, but I thought they were suspension related... ok here is an update on my car. i spun a rod bearing probably due to oil starvation. it was about 2 quarts low they said and that's after i put in a half quart after hearing knocking sound. i checked the oil that morning after 3 runs and it was half a quart low. i added the oil and it looked fine. i did notice that the oil was pretty dark but didn't really think anything about it. i did not check oil again. i thought i had finished running and decided to sneak in one more run before they closed shop. when i moved the car into the grid the knock was there and i stopped to check it out. still not exactly sure how i got that low on oil. there were no leaks that we saw. not sure what the sound is. started hearing it at metrolina. dealer did not see anything when i took it in and it only makes sound under autoX conditions. i think it is in the front passenger suspension or sway bar. i am still not sure exactly what to do with the car. rebuilding or replacing the short block are both fairly labor-intensive and not exactly cheap. a new long block is $4400 but less labor and turns out not to be that much more expensive out-the-door than the other two options, provided that i can sell the old block for a few hundred. these quotes came from Mazda South Charlotte with whom i have a good relationship. they are autoX friendly also and have a couple of drivers that work there. im def considering other options though and am open to suggestions. thanks!

Damn brother, that sucks. Is the car paid for, or do you still owe on it?

You might want to try and look at salvage yards. It has become big business and there are usually low mileage take outs. They also tie into a large network of dealers. Might be worth a try and do a straight swap and keep yours for a "build".

I've been helping him with this yes $ is still owed :/. And in regards to Jy's they want $2500-$4000 for a used engine there are only two $2500 ones I could find and have 80k miles on them.

I'm sure it does get expensive if the labor is done at the dealership. No better time to learn to turn wrenches.
