Hi all...Live in Sanford and within days should receive my Solstice ordered in Sept. Will be interested in SOLO and RoadRallies. Wife and I were very active in sports car rallies, racing gymkanas etc. a long time ago, 50's, in Europe with our 100M Healey and AC Bristol as well as a highly modified Opel GT later, late 60's, in Italy. Am interested in a stock class if there is one our car is elgible for. Also would like to get a schedule of events we can attent to meet you all, observe and learn in the near future. I am 73 and my wife is 70. Presently our only racing is competeing on our racing bicycles.

Welcome, Chuckinnc. Yes there is a class for your Solstice. I will be in CStock the last time I checked. If you check SCCA.COM the chose "SOLO" from the left menu, you should be able to find the "cars & rules" section from that left menu. The whole rule book is downloadble in PDF format now. Like you, I recently returned to sports car competiton after a long layoff. Look forward to meeting you

Like you, I recently returned to sports car competiton after a long layoff. Huh??? When did you start competing? You've been telling the rest of us how much you enjoy driving at these "performance driving events"! Gee, can't wait to see what you will do when you decide to come back from your layoff ;D ;D Hi Chuck - Look forward to seeing you and your Solstice. Those cars look great! Catch any one of us at the next event and we will be glad to help you get back into the sport any way we can. Enjoy the forum, it is a great way to waste time. Glad to have you aboard!

The guys and gals at the CCR-SCCA are a great group of cone-heads !!! Come to the social event this coming Monday night. There is a thread on here somewhere about it. If we stay until after the place closes, are we allowed to setup a few cones?

New Question for the Autocross Experts: Are there any rules against running a rental car at the May 13, 14 Solo II events?
P.S. We just got the Saturn back ($1200).

New Question for the Autocross Experts:Are there any rules against running a rental car at the May 13, 14 Solo II events? Nope... we had a couple last year that ran a rental Mustang before the MR2 they bought showed up.

Ha..the only rule is the one on the rental contract that sez you cannot use the car in speed event, racing, performance contests, etc. Notice that they did not say autocross (at least on the Hertz contract), so they must not have a problem with that. I think Hertz or Avis would love for you to bring a high performance rental out to an autocross - great marketing! Why, you could end up in a new Avis ad! ;D Just remember to put the spare tire and floor mats back in and fill up the tank before returning it!!! After all ~ "Nothing parties like a rental" or, "Rental cars - the only true off-road vehicle" ROFLOL They might wonder about the unusual tire wear!!!

I worked for a rental car company for 25 years! They won't notice a thing as long as you make sure the numbers are off of it.

Remember back in the 60's? Hertz had a deal with Ford and were renting Mustangs, designated as 350H's. They used to sell out of them on weekends, and they would come back with E.T. numbers on them from the dragstrips!!!

That brought on the saying......
"Drive it, like it's a rental!"

The way it was written when I recently rented from Hertz included 'timed competitions', which an autocross certainly is.

Want to thank everyone for the great and helpful responses. The Solstice was expected to arrive at the dealers this past week. It didn't! Disappointment! Anyway should be in next week. I'll not be at the social since no car yet. Appreciate the info on the rules and have printed out the SOLO Stock ones. You all sound great and Carolyn and I are anxious to meet you. Hopefully soon. Bookmarked the Road Rally site and will really try to make it. Again thanks. Chuck

If you're into looking at cars, check out the Charlotte Auto Fair, April 6-9. www.charlotte-autofair.com/Its the largest car show and swap meet in the southeast. The event is at Lowe's Motor Speedway, in Concord. I'll be there with the Miata club on the 8th.

We're usually behind pit wall, on the north end. A few years back we were asked to do the judging for the Z club. They have some nice rides.
