OK. We have many folks at each event ask the poor registrars just what class their Nash Metropolitan should be in.... Sometimes the Tech guys can help if not overwhelmed by, well - Tech! So, here is a little self help that addresses the basics - it is a handy dandy DoItYerself Classing Chart!!! www.odr-scca.org/DIY-classing.htmPretty much addresses everything but Prepared and Modified cars, and if you have one of those chances are you know where it belongs. Now for the disclaimer - the SCCA Solo Rulebook (downloadable from SCCA.org) should always be used to make sure you accurately class your car. But this chart should help you with all the basic mods.

Hi all, I just got a Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6. I am trying to decide what direction to go with. If I keep it Stock then I will be in AS. I am looking into wheels and tires for it now, stock it came with 18's on the front and 19's on the rear. Other than stock rims (which I am having a problem finding) I am thinking of going with different sized rims (possibly 18's all around - 8" wide on front and 9"wide on rear). The front tires would be 225 wide and the rears will probably be 255 or up to 285 (if they will fit). I am not planning on going with race rubber as the car doesn't have room to carry wheels and tires in it.
I tried looking at the chart and wasn't sure where I would fall. I was guessing I would go to ASP, but wasn't 100% sure. In the past I have stayed in stock classes, so I havn't had to deal with non-stock classes before.
I am guessing whatever class I go in I am going to get slaughtered until I learn how to drive this new rocket... but it's going to be fun learning. ;D
Thanks,
Michael

Holy Crapoly mon! That is quite a step from a pickup truck...this'll be fun. I havent' seen a Crossfire run before, but I bet they are fast. Dunno what to tell you on classing - it'll depend on mods. Prob good idea to start off Stock and then work down the chart as you get used to it.

Yeah, not planning on modding it at all. Problem is I don't want to tear up my daily drive street tires while autocrossing so I will be getting a new set for autocross. Just wasn't sure where I would get bumped due to the new rims and tires.

Just wasn't sure where I would get bumped due to the new rims and tires. Why not just put your autocross tires on the stock rims, then use the non-stock set for street driving?

Michael, go to sccaforums.com and do a "crossfire" search. Keith Vail has one...I think...and there has been some discussion on the crossfire subject. Don't remember all that was said though.

The Crossfire would be in AS, if you change the wheel size you would go into ASP.

Thanks all!! I think I will be breaking it in the right way at Dixie, now if I can figure out what rim and tire combo to go with .

Round shiny rims with round (preferred) black tires. Seems to work on my car.

Hi all, I just got a Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6. I am trying to decide what direction to go with. If I keep it Stock then I will be in AS. Michael It's that reference in the second sentence that gets me. With all that power and with suspension set-up of the Cross-fire, I think determing direction will be pretty important. Could you worry about that part first before you buy the new wheels and tires. (Sorry - I just gotta do this...) Steven can provide advice as to effect of changing wheels and tires on a newly-acquired car and THEN worrying about direction to go in! boom-boom. MB. ex-Meahta owner

Now that I have my 97 Miata, I wasn't sure about a couple of things for the STS2 class when I was reading the rules. Maybe some of you Miata guys would know:
Do the annoying Miata sun visors count as "factory trim" that can be removed?
What constitutes a "body kit" and are any of these legal for STS2: A lower lip for the front bumber? A Racing Beat nose? Those little vents that replace the factory turn signals?
Can a role bar be put in a STS2 miata? Eventually driving in some NASA HPDE days would be fun, but you need a roll bar like for Solo 1. Thanks guys!

A 97 Miata is legal in STS-2 if it doesn't have a Torsen diff. If your car has power windows, it has a Torsen (unless you bought an STO). For help figuring out your trim let me know. I doubt anyone will care about sun visors. I have TSI's and nobody has said anything, they really don't do anything at autocross speeds. Not sure if the Racing Beat nose would be legal, but since it's really just cosmetic, I think it would be ok. The R-package lips should be fine. Roll bars are legal in all classes as long as they are real bars, not a style bar. Bring it out to the school and have fun!!

Hmmm, my car does have power windows. My impression was that it has the Touring Package which includes; Power steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, power mirrors, aluminum alloy wheels and door map pockets. But I didn't think it had the next package step up (Popular Equipment Package) since I don't have a power antenna or headrest speakers... not sure about the other options in that package of Torsen limited-slip and rear subframe brace rods.
Oh, and I am pretty sure it doesn't have ABS. I tried locking them up last time it rained.

Last year I got some good advice on classing my car, but unfortunatly did not get to make it to an event. I am determined to make an event this spring, but I think I am in a new class.
I have a 2007 Acura TL Type-S (same as last year). Stock it looks like it would be GS. BUT, I've made some upgrades:
- Throttle Body Spacer and Thermo Gaskets - Upgraded Rear Sway Bar and Bushings - Installed H&R Sport Lowering Springs.
All other Engine, Electrical, Catalytic, etc systems are still stock. Tires/Rim size and type are stock.
If I read the DIY and 2008 Rules correctly the mods plus that it is a 3.5L NA Engine, make me STX.
Can someone verify/confirm that is correct?

I'm building a Fiat X1/9 for DSP and while checking out the DYI car classes I got confussed on the engine and intake system item concerning the " installed emission legal headers." My car has aftermarket headers that go to a cat and then out. Is this system ok for DSP?

Another question about DSP.. can bumpers and their supports be removed?

Post by lagunamiata on Apr 11, 2008 13:03:50 GMT -5
Header should be fine.
Not sure about the bumpers and supports... I'll have to look at the rules. But generally with the rules, if they don't say you can do something, you can't. So unless the rules say that removing bumpers is ok, you have to leave them on.
