The lack of spectator areas was disconcerting - fewer views than Crow - but it allowed for meeting a lot of nice and interesting people. I had a great time watching Sunday. With as much use as that road gets by car clubs, the county might be wise to build viewing decks on the "hill" above the road and trails to connect them. In Europe with no bans on public road use for competition, great vistas are easy to find but here we have to make places for spectators to get good views. Can't wait 'til the next one, though!

The spectator areas are limited only because of safety. The Forest Services and SCCA have worked closely and at this time, those areas are the only we are satisfied with. That may change and there are some discussions going on. I stated this earlier but it is worth re-peating. Our three priorities in order of importance are Spectators, event staff and drivers. The spectators came expecting a great time and the opportunity to eat, watch cool cars race and meet drivers... they did not come prepared with safety equipment and nomex gear. We want them to come, have fun and leave without so much as a chigger bite looking forward to the next one. Our workes come to the event with equipment and knowledge... we conduct training sessions prior to the event and workers understand the importance of safety and inherent dangers in racing and working a race. Last is the drivers, who meet rules with car prep, have the safety gear and attend classes before being allowed to run. To paraphrase Kimi "They know what they are doing..." I would love to have more safety areas but at present time, we cannot add them. There are few areas that lend themselves to being able to control a crowd (with children) safely. BUT... we're working on it. Even considering having some food up there on Spectator #2 next event. Come and see!

Hopefully events like this one will open the door to more improvements for the site. We are working to get more space for cars and support vehicles as well as spectator viewing areas. It will be a win - win for us and the local area. Still tired, but had a great time. Thanks to everyone that helped make this a huge success.

Now, the GPS signal is not that great so data lags at times and ignore the time on the video

Wish Heikki good luck at Pikes Peak Hillclimb... also, we hope he can talk Sebastien Loeb in to coming one day! Thanks Heikki!

Here is my second run up the hill. It is the only run that recorded for some reason.

It dawns on me that quad copters, GoPro camcorders and linked big screen TVs could allow spectators, and maybe those at home in Robbinsville, to follow the ascent of the cars. Then we spectators could sit there, chat and get to know one another and really enjoy the competition. One of the things I like best about hiking the Appalachian Trail is getting to talk to fellow hikers. Same is true about watching hillclimbs or races though I can get scared of the drunks at night at Sebring.
