Hey guys!
My name is Jamie Honeycutt, and I'm obviously new here. I did a weekend membership this past weekend as a flagging and communications corner worker at Road Atlanta, and let me say, I know I've found my new home! Everyone I've met is extremely friendly and helpful. My wife volunteered as a Timing & Scoring official, and she had a blast too. I've been wanting to flag since I was a little kid, and I finally did something about it, and I'm so very glad I did. I had an awesome corner captain that's a veteran to the sport and he taught me an immense amount of valuable information. I retained everything he said, and by the end of the weekend, I felt like a pro flagger. I'm very excited to be here, and my wife and I are purchasing our family membership in the next couple of weeks. Someday, we want to run some Auto-x events with a car of our own.
I'm also curious as to where the club racing event schedule is. I see on the SCCA website that there is a club racing event at Charlotte coming up, but when it redirects me here, I can't find any information on it? Any help in that aspect will be very much appreciated. Sorry for the long post, but just wanted to introduce myself and say hey!

Hi Jamie! The Charlotte Motor Speedway race is August 17-18 and registration should be up soon. If you're interested in working, email vickieckerich@att.net to let her know who and how many will be working. We're also hosting a hillclimb the first weekend in August near Robbinsville, NC. We're still looking for volunteers for that. It's not going to be quite the same as flagging a wheel to wheel race at Road Atlanta or Charlotte Motor Speedway, but it's a ton of fun in a GORGEOUS area with a wide variety of cars. If you're interested in that, email Vicki again to get set up. We also have two upcoming AutoX events back to back. There's a small night series on Wednesday, July 24th at Metrolina Expo. Registration opens up around 5pm and first car off at 7-ish. It's pretty small and relaxed. Then our bigger points event is Saturday, July 27th at zMax Dragway right down the street from Charlotte Motor Speedway. We'd love to have you at either one or both. If you're not yet feeling up to driving, come on out, make sure you've signed the waiver, grab a loaner helmet or bring your own, and at very least jump in a car for a ridealong. We look forward to seeing you and your wife around in the future, and I just may be working a corner with you at Charlotte while my wife works timing with yours! Steven

If someone isn't already in the passenger seat of my car, you're more than welcome to hop on in.
If you think flagging is fun, wait till you are actually driving!

Hey I appreciate it guys! My wife and I got to ride in a souped up rx7 with one of the drivers to do some hot laps this weekend, and I've never seen such a big smile on her face when she got back to the paddock lol so that would be really cool. I thought about running my 99 Camaro, but the rear suspension is really really soft right now, so I'm wondering if I just need to wait to run it.

And btw, is the registration going to be on Motorsportreg.com? If not, what site will it be on? (for the Charlotte race)

If you and your wife are new and want to autocross, I highly recommend our Wednesday Night Autocross for beginners. The Night events always have less than 50 drivers, a much easier course layout, and always have a very laid back atmosphere. Compared to our zMax events, which have about 200 drivers, a very challenging course layout for veterans of the sport and a bit more of a competitive atmosphere.
So dipping your toes into a zMax event may be a bit overwhelming to some.
