After going to Lowes last year for the solo event, i really liked the idea of getting out on the big track as well. I went to the scca site and got the basic idea of what it's about, checked over the rules section too. Back in the earlier days of racing, it was fairly common to swap motors amongst brands, is that still allowed in any capacity? Is time trials and club racing similar to Solo in the respect that there is a class for any car? Not automatic competitiveness, but a class to fit just about any configuration? In Australia there was a guy who up until very recently raced a super beetle like mine with a Subaru motor in it. A stock subby motor is loads stronger and more powerfull than a built VW motor at 1/4 the price. Can anyone give me some constructive answers on if it can be done here? Thanks, greg

There are always "catch all" classes like SPU and SPO (Super Production Under and Over, based on displacement, IIRC), but I don't know all that much about the ruleset for those classes as they are SEDIV classes and I've not seen much documentation on them.
Brian also noted that the SEDIV is running some new "tuner" classes this season, so there may be another class you could run in there as well.
Check out the threads in the Time Trials forum here as well which has some useful info on required prep for SCCA Track Trials.

X-Prepared doesn't have the "same make" requirements for engine swaps that Street Mod does, that could be an option for your car in autocross if you swap to a non-VW engine.

Does anyone know if the April Time Trials event is open for sign up yet? We are getting closer to the date and I remember reading that entry might be limited.

Since the Time Trial series is based on the SCCA GCR classes along with Solo GCR classes, Street Prepared and Street Modified. You will need to first look at the Solo Street Mod class 1& 2 to see if your configuration is covered. If that vehicle package is beyond SM than look at the Club Racing for a modified class. If all else fails than run in a "Specials Class" for the event. You will have to look at the SEDIV 2007 rules and see if a Divisional TT class is offered that fits your car. There is a class for eveything with four wheels and a motor that I have previously come across. With over fifty classes I would thing we have one for you.

Thanks Brian, I'll get a look at that asap. I just want to know where I'll fit should I go with this project. It's been done a few time over here and looks like a blast.
Thanks to Matt as well. I've been following the XP class since it started to see how it would form up. I think that I will run a different car than the beetle if i go road racing, more than likely the fastback type 3 I have. Thanks again to all, greg
