How/When can we sign up for the Track Trials?
Are transponders going to be used for timing?

Transponders will be required for those cars running the Track Trial. Tansponders will be available for rent for the weekend for a small charge.

Keith:
The Track Trial and the PDE are going to switch every hour. First hour is Track Trial, second hour are PDE groups 1 2 3, each getting 20 minutes. Next hour is Track Trials and so on. Hope this clears up your question. Additional inforamation in now available Myautoevents.com. Links are on the home page.

How will multi-driver cars be handled? Will both drivers recieve the FULL 20 mins per session?

I think we have a little confusion about the two events scheduled April 8th & 9th. The PDE students will each get an 20 minute session once every other hour. The other hour is set the T.T. cars. The T.T. cars will run continuiously for their scheduled hour. In a two driver car, driver 1 would run and get back in line for the second driver.

"The T.T. cars will run continuiously for their scheduled hour. In a two driver car, driver 1 would run and get back in line for the second driver. " OK now I'm really confused, are the TT folks going back to the 3 laps and off from previous years? Or will there be multiple 20 min groups on track by class at the same time? ;D Or will ALL the TT folks be on the track for the entire 1 hour period at the same time? If 20 min groups will the second driver go out with a different group? Thanks for the clarification. Glenn #61 SSB Miata CCR Region

I'm not completely sure but this is my understanding:
Hour 1: Track Trials drivers run one-at-a-time.
Hour 2: PDE Group 1 runs for the first 20 minutes, all at the same time. PDE Group 2 runs for the second 20 minutes, all at the same time. PDE Group 3 runs for the final 20 minutes, all at the same time.
Hour 3: TT drivers again, same as before.
Hour 4: PDE drivers again, same as before.
Etc.....
It seems like multi-driver cars will work just fine in the TT group, but for the PDE drivers, they'd have to be in different groups.

Basically, every other hour is for Track Trails. We'll send a car out, then about a 20-second gap and send another car, until we have 4 or 5 (or more) cars on track. Each car should get a warm-up, 3 hot laps, cool down. As the last car of that "pod" comes in, we'll be sending out the first car of the next pod.
Exactly how many cars we have on track is calculation of the types of cars entered and the relative speeds. There may a small pod of open-wheeled cars, because they can't run on track with closed wheel.
There will be passing zones - like the PDE - basically on each major straight. There is NO passing in the corner.
For the Track trials, drivers will be expected to indicate readiness to be passed either by signaling or some other obvious method.
There is no tail-gating/drafting either. Obviously we appreciate that you may come up on another car as you're preparing for a passing maneuver, but if you don't complete the pass on the straight, then you need to back off the car in front.
The first track trial driver will go out (on their warm-up lap) 20-sec or so after the last PDX guy passes, and visa-versa for the following session, to maximize track usage.
Because the Track Trials drivers are using transponders, we record your times independently and it doesn't matter if the order at the end of your laps is different from the start.
Hope this helps and doesn't confuse more. I think most entrants are used to this type of track protocol.

A couple of newbie questions ...
1. Are the transponders self powered or do they have to hook up to the car's electrical system??
2. How does a newbie qualify for a track trials liscense ??
Thanks

Bottom line is TT is the same as it's always been except we have to shre the whole track with the PDE events, which equils LESS overall track time.

Thanks to everyone at CCR for the great event. Running the full track was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the additional technical parts.
Thanks again and a special tip-'o-the-hat to all the workers!

Thanks to CCR for a great TT weekend. I really enjoyed getting to experience the full track. I thought the format worked really well. I liked the breaks between sessions to review and try different setups. The use of transponders was a great idea too. We''l look forward to more visits "down south". Thanks to all the folks that worked so hard to make this happen. Stan Vann Caldwell D9 #9

The weekend at CMP was great. Using the transponders is something that we ought to do at all the events. Appreciate all the CCR effort to pull the event off. Sat dinner was one of the best ever at a TT event. Is the course (north?) that we ran TT last year set up for Transponders? If not could it be? I would recommend going back to a split track set-up. Use the north course for the TT and the south course for PDE.

When can we expect the results from CMP to be posted. I had to leave before the final session Sunday.

I, too, would like to see the results. They remind me of why I am in this life...to bring happiness and joy to others...and if by finishing last in class I can make my fellow competitors happy I have fulfilled my mission....hhhmmmmm.... There is only one AMB loop (for the transponders) in the CMP track - the one by Start/Finish line. I had talked with Mickey of CMP about inserting another near where we timed TT in past years and offered for CCR to pay for the loop. The problem is getting the signal back to the timing building, which requires digging up a long portion of land between that section and the building.
The AMB Decoder must be hard-wired to the loop. Another option now is to put the AMB decoder in a water-tight container not far from the track and use wi-fi signal to send to timing. But that also requires providing power (generator) to the decoder. Plus you have to put it somewhere that would not EVER get run-over by an errant car (decoder costs $7,000!).
Also, PDX drivers would not want to just drive the 'south' course (I think it is the West course actually) as that would be too boring which means we have to go back to a Club Trials style for that portion which didn't really appear too successful either.
So we have investigated some of these alternatives but haven't come up with any ideal solution for everyone... Martin

I was hoping you Solo I/Track Trials folks could help me find a competitor. His last name was Bugg and he was running a yellow Predator DSR car. I gave him my card, but I forgot what his e-mail address is. It's BuggBoyz@__________.___ Any help would be greatly appreciated. Scott Franklin www.NutDriver.org

Thanks for the help ffhillclimber. Unfortunately, Mr. Bugg wasn't able to help me find the OTHER person I was trying to find. There was a guy there with a Van Dieman (I believe) for sale. I didn't find out about his car being for sale until lunchtime or after on Sunday and he'd already left. If anyone knows who this might be or can forward an entry list for the Track Trials event so I can try to find him, it would be appreciated. Scott Franklin www.NutDriver.org

First, I’m sorry about the delay in getting out the Thank-You notes. My family experienced a loss Sunday night following the event which delayed this thank-you to the individuals who made the weekend a success.
Secondly, I want to thank everyone who attended the PDX/Track Trial at CMP on April 8th & 9th. I certainly hope that everyone had a great time and learned enough about CMP to improve their driving skills and laps times. Based on much of the feed back, it seems that just about everyone had a great experience.
This event could not have occurred with out the help of many people who committed their time and extra effort to ensure that CCR presented a successful event for the participants.
I especially want to thank the following individuals for the extra effort: Sheryl & Shane Findlan for the contributions to registration. An extra thanks to Shane for helping in T&S and grid when extra help was needed (Sorry you got wet). Another thanks to Steve and Sue Eckeridse for working late Friday and Saturday morning. We certainly needed their expertise in the area of Technical Inspection/Log Books for the Track Trial cars. Brenda Oliver for her efforts setting-up the timing system for timed laps versus the race configuration while working with slimmed down staff. Brian Gause for the participants & worker gifts that he squeezed from Continental Tires and chairing the Track Trial event for the weekend. Coy Gillenwater our Chief Instructor and Steve Rankins our PDX chairman for their support and special skills in running the PDX event. Tony Wentworth and Brian’s son for working the grid and staging. Mark Mashburn for his masterful handling of the starter’s station and for keeping track of who was on which lap. Thanks to both John Willes and Mort Stern for their contributions as weekend Stewards.
Thanks again, to everyone who contributed to the weekend and thanks to everyone who participated.
