I HAVEN'T CHECKED THIS FOR A WHILE. I MISS CHIMNEY ROCK TOO. A COUPLE NOTES.... MY DAUGHTER, ALEXIS AND MIKE GREEN HAVE TO BE ASKED THE STORY ABOUT THE "MOON WALK". THIS SHOULD BE GOOD FOR A LAUGH IN THE BOOK. THE NEXT DAY MIKE GREEN TOLD ME "IF I HAD KNOWN IT WAS YOUR DAUGHTER, I SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED SOMETHING". ALSO THE GAG GIFT WAS A STICK, 1 x 2 INCH PINE BY ABOUT 10 INCHES LONG WHICH I WAS SUPPOSED TO PRY MY LEGS APART TO LEAVE ROOM FOR EXTRA BALLS WHEN DRIVING. IT HAD INSTRUCTIONS WRITTEN IN PEN ON IT. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, THAT WAS THE YEAR I STARTED GOING MUCH FASTER .... THOUGH I DO REMEMBER A COUPLE SPLINTERS WHICH WERE HARD TO REMOVE. I STILL HAVE THE BOARD .. SOMEWHERE. I WON'T THROW IT OUT. I ALSO SEEM TO REMEMBER OWNING A TOMBSTONE ... SOMETHING ABOUT A DEAD RECORD I BELIEVE. TED, KEEP ME POSTED ON THE CAR. I WANT TO KNOW WHEN IT GETS A HEARTBEAT, MOVES UNDER POWER ETC. JERRY

Thanks Jerry...appreciate you chiming in. The engine is in and we are sorting out wiring and switches. If all goes well, it will breath fire tonight for the first time. I will get pictures and let you know as soon as I know. Still planning to run it saturday and sunday. Please...everyone... keep the stories on Chimney Rock coming. I really am enjoying this and as I said, I'm not writing the book, I am assembling it. Send your memories and pictures and stories to me - tedagmar@juno.com I spoke with Rick Hallman in SCR who ran a Fiat 850 at Chimney Rock one year. He said his fondest memory was at the top of Chimney Rock, running over to Mike Green to congratulation him on JUST finishing a new track record. Mike was sitting in the car stunned. While he was waiting for Mike to remove his helmet so he could shake his hand, he said he saw Mike's heart "beating through his driver's uniform. " Anyone ever doubted that was a scary ride? Other stories recently picked up include an old friend of mine living in Anderson, SC now who once ran a Pinto up Chimney Rock and tried to use Nitrous Oxide ... dramatically unsuccessfully! It was illegal by SCCA rules but the car was very very fast in a straight line of 70 yards...unfortunately, there was a left hander at the 45 yard marker. Anyone have contact info for Big Al Rayfield? I need to ask him several things... including the chemical composition of his mystery fluid he painted on his tires pre-race. I know about the eye of bat and wing of newt stuff...just need the other chemicals involved. if you know how to get in touch with him, please let me know.

T. Beyer, Big Al, aka. "Dead Bird Racing" was last seen by me about 6 years ago doing "Stand Up" comedy at the Comedy Zone in Charlotte. His secret formula tire softener had a base component (now under EPA disfavor) known as toluene.

Hmmm...how about testing time! ;D Don't expect too much... still finding out where the leaks are! IT is going to take a while to learn how to drive it... hopefully this weekend, I think I can master the "right pedal - gas, left pedal - clutch and middle pedal - brake" thingy.

Report from Myrtle Beach: The Bandit is back! Ted and The Bandit had a very successful first day. Five clean and quick runs on a very slick surface. For what I believe to be his first time in a formula car, a very impressive drive on a very tricky surface. More to come tomorrow.

Had a great time... with 4 year old rubber and just trying to test, tune and shake the bugs out, I was thrilled. The car handled really well under acceleration...it stuck like glue. When I lifted the throttle or touched brakes she started sliding. I think that is where the "good rubber" would have come into the picture! ;D The warp speed pylons are coming at you really test your reflexes. Thanks to all involved in getting Bandit back on the road... especially Steve Hampton, (Chap Racing). His knowledge of hillclimb cars, race car fab, engineering, prep and maintenance is amazing ... he did a great job pulling it all together. Without him, I'd have the world's largest garage paperweight. Also thanks to Jerry Kieft, Steve Eckerich, Steve Cooke, Stan Vann, my son TJ, John Finger, and George Bowland...encouragement, parts, advice and Hillclimbing 101 lessons. George is a great teacher...I wish I was a better student. the new logo….

Thanks Mark & David... it was a blast!
It sounds like a monster but we checked sound meter and it is lower than 91 dec! But when you crack the throttle, you feel it. The turndown exhaust leaves crop circles on the sand at Myrtle Beach....if I put it on the beach and let it idle for ten minutes, you could drop a telephone pole in the hole and half of it would disappear! ;D
Rubber will have to wait... lots of work to do and that stuff is expensive. My dentist says I have to get a full face helmet for Christmas. I think a Simpson Bandit would be fitting!
DStan - thanks for introducing me to DSam. She's a sweet lady. I would love to see her pictures. Tell her I would consider giving her a set of N's I have laying around here if she'd get busy and start autocrossing!

Ted where were you measuring db from, Wilmington?? I bet the people in the planes landing overhead heard it and thought something was wrong with the plane. DStan - thanks for introducing me to DSam. She's a sweet lady. I would love to see her pictures. Tell her I would consider giving her a set of N's I have laying around here if she'd get busy and start autocrossing! She will have to get her Nissan ready for that. As competitive as she is I can't have her beating me in my own car

What a treat to see "The Bandit" back in action. It's been about 10 years ago that I saw it take King of the Hill honors at the Duryea Hillclimb in Reading, PA. with Jerry aboard. That was the last time I saw Jerry too. Also Ted is correct. I've heard unmuffled rotories and I was surprised how quiet Ted and Steve had gotten the BANDIT.

Are you pulling it on an open trailer? If so, do you adjust the wings for max mpg on the highway or do you just compress the trailer on its suspension?

I have to pull both wings. If you leave on the wings and point it to the rear of the tow car, it wears the trailer bearings out .... if you turn it away from the tow vehicle it fish tails AND floats about 2 feet off the ground when you hit 60 MPH. Really clears traffic for you though... don't need a WIDE LOAD banner when you are floating back and forth like that!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Congrats Ted!
Steve Hampton and CHAP are a class act and have more time wrenching on hillclimb champs than anybody in the SE. These guys are tops in Race Car prep. I glad you hooked up with them.
Note.....you need to sit further down in the cockpit just like Jerry use to!
Car looks good.

Not sure how active this topic is but figured I would update.
I bought "bandit" last year in may. Engine was rebuilt by pineapple racing in Portland,or. I am told it is tuned to 300+whp. Roll cage has been redone. It appears not much else has changed from the previous owners besides rear brakes. I have an emod car currently that I autocross and I am going to start doing hill limbs this year or next year. This year I am going to focus on troubleshooting the car in practice sessions and then update over the winter hopefully.
Car has been renamed to "mario kart" and I am going to update the graphics on the car. Anymore info would be great.
