I would be interested in working this event - Where can I sign up? Please check the first page of this thread and contact Don Drennon. Thanks for asking. Tried registering using MyAutoEvents Site. I didn’t see how to register for F&C and believe I registered as a Driver in error. Don Drennon: I get with you at CMP later this month.

Holders of current SCCA National or Regional Competition License, Time Trial Event Licenses, NASA TT or Comp license, FIA License (if SCCA member) may compete in this event.
I think Marcel has spoken with you. He is a good resource and is working with us on the rally side. Thanks for your interest. We look forward to seeing you guys looking out the side window in turns! ;D

Marcel's actually my codriver Was just trying to get out some info and it sounds like we're going to run under rally rules which makes my life a heck of a lot easier. See y'all at the event in a few weeks. Hopefully we can get more rally guys registered!

Signed up as volunteer and am ready to go. The wife and I drove up to Robbinsville today then drove the Tail into TN and then back to town and booked a reservation at the Microtel. Stopped and had a late lunch at the Mexican restaurant down the street from the hotel. Made sure all knew we were from the SCCA and that we would be back for the weekend in June. Towns people were very happy to have us there and were very nice to us. Don't forget this is a dry county...no Margaritas

Bob..THANKS SO MUCH! That was great to hear. Please do let the people know who and where you are from... this does more to help than you can imagine. The impact in the community is already being felt. It is easy to assume with the Tail of the Dragon, they get a lot of tourism. Not true. People may drive thru or get gas on the way TO TOD but they do NOT get a lot of overnight, evening meals, shopping, etc. What Bob did is the kind of thing that on a one to one basis lets the community know we are worth dealing with, worth having us for an event and looking forward to us coming. And Bob, it's dry but you can sure bring Your own... if you forget to do that, let me know. I know several that won't! Thanks for signing up! We got a great bunch of d drivers anstaff for this event! Great to see this involvement! We are ready to rock!

If you go to www.tailofthedragon.com there are LOTS of places listed. There is a tab at the top and lots of places from nice B&Bs to some really bizarre little places that look like the utility buildings that they have set up in the Home Depot parking lot. BTW, I think I got the last room at the Microtel. :-p~

(Remove the comma from the end of the Tail of the Dragon link if it gives you an error.) There is a really nice upscale lodge about 3 miles from the event called Snowbird Lodge...another one 2 miles further down the road called Blue Boar Inn. There is also the huge Fontana Village resort on the other side of town, (remember, great roads all around so it's not such a bad drive ) and simpler places like Two Wheel Inn that are car-friendly. (Each room has a locking garage with room for 2 motorcycles...not enough space for a car unless you can stand it on the side) Here's a link to my Google map of area hotels/restaurants/amenities maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&om=1&t=h&msa=0&msid=217407724994912016887.00000111c4cdbf3a47f82&ll=35.356996,-83.891945&spn=0.06559,0.129433&z=14

Yeah I'll have a couple of red 36" logos for you when you arrive, they should work on the white or the black parts of your car. We will also have extras in red, white, and black for anyone else that wants them...should fit nice over windshields/rear windows also if you want to remove them easily afterwards. We plan to have 5-6 cameras there shooting pics and HD video, and I want to be at the finish getting interviews of initial impressions of the course, so be ready for your closeup!

Sweeet! Maybe black would be better in your case. I don't think I've mentioned yet but we've got a 1984 Zink Formula 500/600 racer with Suzuki GSXR600 motor. The roll bar is not up to SCCA spec, among god-knows-what-else, and I don't have a SCCA license, but I may have it for show at the event or at least the showcase in town at night. Speaking of, I talked with one of the commissioners today about the vehicle showcase planned for Friday evening here in town, and he agreed that Saturday night might also be a good additional night for displaying the cars since many of you probably won't be in until late Friday...what do you all think? Show the cars in the town square Friday night and on the main drag in a designated area Saturday night? If you had to pick one night, which would you prefer?

Darryl
I am working with Cheri on both nights socials/parties. We may need to check with her on plans as some of those are not finalized yet. She's working with mayor, police dept, etc. I am asking a few select cars to stay on display downtown on friday night until later (to be used for extrication demo for EMS / FD guys). Not a lot of space for too many cars and once drivers get trailers and are all set on hill, it will be a job taking them back to town for display and then back to hill after 9 PM. We want all drivers and crew and people off the hill at 9 PM both nights. Trash will be removed and no camping on hill as supps state.
All cars will be on display while they are being teched and getting registered. We will have more information for drivers on party plans after a meeting next week. Darryl , if you can be there for that, it would be great. Thanks guys! Stay turned for more information.

Good deal Ted. We had kicked around doing the Saturday night gathering along the main drag in town, across the road from the Mexican restaurant and Travel/Tourism offices. Big parking lot there and we could line the cars right up against the sidewalk in that front row of parking spaces. I understand that it will be difficult for some to shuttle the cars around though, so do what needs to be done. We'll be talking to the owners of the new BBQ place in that parking lot today about prints/posters for their restaurant, and I'm going to suggest that IF a gathering takes place in that lot Saturday night, they could have a little outdoor food setup with small plates of BBQ/beans/roll/drink for a few bucks.

Darryl, I'll have plenty of space on my "clown car" for Killboy logos as well. Since my car is painted "clown vomit", I don't think the color of your vinyl will matter. :-)

Finally got up there a couple of days ago to get some shots of the road surface for y'all. There are a couple of dips to contend with, and this doesn't really convey the washboard effect the whole thing has, but it's not too bad with the right setup. Closeup Yeah let's just hope for clear weather that weekend, gets pretty foggy, especially as you continue on up higher. We could hardly see the road by the time we reached the summit.

Thanks Darryl for the close up of the surface. Now you can get an idea of where all the loose stone comes from!!

Nice pics Darryl. I hope to not see the pavement that up close and personal As far as the fog, it's a nice touch. Several years ago at Crow they said the visibility was 200' in the fog as I rolled to the start line. Entering the looooong left sweeper near the top I realized the hood of my Miata was 200' long, as that was as far as I could see...and yes, I lifted.

One quick question. Will this event run the class Street Unlimited (SU)? AL SCCA ran this class as a SEDIV class (I believe) at the TGPR event this year. I didn't see it listed so I thought I would ask.

Course map for you to study... Couple of notes... Lori's Lefty - Named after Killgurl ...I'll let her tell you about her "lefty" accident riding her motorcycle on the Tail of the Dragon! Racer's Elbow - named after it's shape... not the disease! Hair Bender - higher speed blind left turn... it'll make your hair stand up... or lay back ... assuming you have some. Snake Skin Esses - I actually saw a snake skin along this road...it's a nice series of light esses. Zig and Zag - nice two turn series ...getting near the end. Ruffles - named for the slight ruffles just after the finish line. Don't be looking at them, be looking at that brown boulder on the left after the finish line. Mr. Brown would love to meet ya! When you get a chance, walk up to the overlook at the loop. It's 30 steps to a beautiful mountain view. If you have time at the top, pop out of your car for some water and say hello to the spectators there in the viewing area. There are three viewing areas, one at start, one at middle of course and one at top. The one at top is a bit boring as they only see you cross the finish line and drive slowly up the to turn around. We'll make it fun for them with you drivers speaking to the crowd and an occasional appearance by the SCCA Dragon! ; ) Attachments:

Yes, the car is logbooked and good to go with driver safety equipment.
