I figured you knew all that, but some people actually read this forum for information and educational purposes. We just don't happen to be among them.
And, we have TOP again grasshopper....

My son is 17 and has a 95 Saturn coupe. Based on his age and car, is he eligible for the school and Sunday?

As long as he has a valid drivers licience he should be able to register. He will also have to get a copy of the minor waiver signed, since he is younger than 18. It must be signed by both parents or legal gardians. It should be available at www.scca.com

glad to hear you want your young son to come out, autocrossing will teach him car control unlike anything he could get during street driving.
a Saturn SC isnt a bad car either! lol

yup - those cars are quite under-rated. good engine - decent chassis. Trick is to get some decent tires under the car

Oh yeah, and should I bother putting the summer rubber on now, or just be fine with the Godawful allseasons I've got on there now for this nasty winter weather we've had (heavy sarcasm). A car can handle completely differently at the limit with more grip, so I would reccomend the summers. I've also faired well in the rain with my all-seasons. If the forecast looks good for your summer tires (temp & precip), I'd bring them.

What risks are we putting his only transportation to?

What risks are we putting his only transportation to? I learned to drive (stick) on my current car. Got it with 39k. It's at 93 and the clutch hasn't been replaced and hasn't started slipping yet! You should be fine

Well, it doesn't matter who I get, they'll have more experience than me... and that's why I'm doing it to begin with.

I picked up my new car today and ordered 4 Falken Azenis which will probably ship Monday. The tires on there (two different on the front, a 3rd different on the rear at least match eachother) I would consider to be dangerous and certainly not worthy of autoXing. A friend was supposed to mount/balance the tires for free Saturday so I don't know if I'll do that, or pay for it earlier. Can I show up day-of for the school or do I have to be pre-registered? If so I guess I will just show up for Sunday's autocross. Anyway, that's where I stand. I really want to do the car's first autocross, and my first in NC. (and in 9 months)

(and in 9 months) -Chris If you think you will be there, and if you are really going to make an effort to be there, go ahead a pre-register. It will help with the event planning. Don't get too concerned about the tires. Unless you feel they are un-safe from a standpoint of condition - thread-bare; dry rot; etc., don't worry about it. While mixed tires may handle "funky," you should not be subjected to extreme conditions on Saturday which would endanger you. Your tires will be inspected as part of the inspection, and if there is a problem with the overall condition of the tires, you will be informed. Remember - this is a 2 part school, and your tires don't matter for the classroom. You will find the classroom instruction to be very valuable, and worth the price of admission. The driving part is the "fun" icing on the cake.

It should be noted that CCR does not require a tire to meet the same silly standards as the NCDOT - we like it when the wear bars are showing.. ;D However, you should have some rubber covering the steel belts

If you are a novice and cannot come on Saturday, download the Novice Handbook from this site: www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htmIt will help you get ready for sunday. There will be a lot more presented on Saturday, plus instructors to help out.

BTW, the Saturn is registered in the wrong class. Here's the class breakdown for Saturns in Stock: Saturn 8v H Stock (HS) Saturn DOHC G Stock (GS) Saturn Ion (non-Red Line) H Stock (HS) Saturn Ion Red Line FasTrack 6/04 D Stock (DS) Saturn L Series 4-cyl H Stock (HS) Saturn L Series 6-cyl G Stock (GS)
Not knowing for sure, but I'd expect you're in HS, not BS. You'll want to change your registration for the Sunday event so you don't get spanked by the 350Z!

yup - I did...didn't want to take a spot from someone who needed it. Other years it hasn't been quite a sellout - and I really had registered just to be there and help out anyways. looks like most folks on the list are noobies, so it should work out.
