If you're asking about the actual numbers for the car, SCCA rules are numbers must be at least 8 inches tall, class letters 4 inches tall. Numbers and class letters should be on both sides of the car. We have white "shoe polish" (although thats not what it really is) that you can use to write the numbers on your windows. Most folks use magnetic numbers (or vinyl static cling for plastic / fiberglass cars). You can get them from www.izoomgraphics.com/ among other places. Take a look in the novice section of the forum. Some of the questions you have may be already answered in there. Looking forward to seeing you next month!!

Matthew, you simply choose a number that no one else in your class is using.
Look through past results to determine what is available. Unfortunately, the only results availble online right now are the current year's results.
Basically, we have no "set rules" on choosing numbers, we simply respect what those whom have gone before us chose.
Hope that helps.

Matthew. Just to toss in a few cents worth. If you car body is steel, you can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get magnetic sheets that are intended to cover HVAC registers. I think it comes in a 6 x 12 sheet or something like that. Very easy to cut into numbers with scissors. Just use your computer to print out a full height number - and use it as a pattern. Rich's dimensions are correct, although at the autocross no one gets upset if your aren't dead on size wise. Class lettering can be done using the same magnetic stuff or you can even use a big marker to write it on the magnet. I use the reflective mailbox letters. Works pretty well. Best thing to do is come with a couple of different numbers so that you can have a combination of possible choices. So, for example if you have a 2 and a 4 you can also be 24 or 42. Have two sets to do both sides of the car. Finally, when you register for the event at www.myautoevents.com you submit your top 3 number choices and it will tell you right away whether or not you got you first choice.

I made my numbers from these, and 3 sheets were enough.

I've got a CAD table here at work and can cut any number/class configuration you want for $20 per set (enough for both sides of the car). I'll bring them to the double event May 13-14th. E-mail me if you (or anyone else, for that matter) are interested: jbrotbeck@sumterpackaging.com The only catch is I can only do white for now since I am not set-up as a full graphics shop with colored vinyl. Here's an example of some I made:
