Just a thioght. When I walk the course, at first sign of the "sea of cones" syndrome I kneel down. This gets my head at driver height. Yes IMHO the track will change from walk height to drive position. I walk slow and on my line. I try to put my body where it will be in the car. Then I try to put the car where I walked. My pennies worth of thought. James

If you want to read a good discussion on it - GRM did an article on AXing a shifter cart..that was the exact point the driver made - that the cones look completely different at ground level. Now, your car may not be that low, but it ain't 5+ feet either (well, ex for FastFrontier! ;D)

I do all of the above on this page .. Plus,, I'll turn around from time to time. It helps me to see the line I just walked. I don't reccomend this if you can't read a map.

This seems to be a consistent problem at K-Town as at last years event the first run group was stoped half way thru, for a course walk because so many people were dnf'ing. Hm, first off, I don't think there was an event at K-town last year. There was one scheduled, but it was the one we ended up having at Maggie Valley, I believe. I think a scheduling conflict with the Intimidators came up.
The only time in the 3 1/2 years I've been doing this, where they stopped the event to have another course walk, was at Knights. That was the one time where they put all the novices in one run group, and they were having a hard time with that course. I heard that Steven was NOT happy about having to stop and do that. I heard his expression was like this: I doubt we'll ever[/i] have the novices in one run group again. [/color]

CCR #4 was at K-town last year.
I believe there was a second one scheduled that was held at a different venue. (I believe that was the Maggie event.)

last year at k-town we did do a course walk in the midst of RUNS. That was my first and only shot at course layout.
I liked it, but I had seen the course in my mind for weeks. It had a course feature that was "borrowed" during the 2005 NCAC with a slolom ending into a pivot cone.
It is good to mix up the venues so you mix up the travel times and give everyone a fair shake on proximity toi their ORIGIN. Also a change in surface is good, but K-town is usually slick as ICE.
I have always had fun their whether racin or watching b-ball.

WHO CAN FORGET THAT,... "WING THING" MAKING THOSE 30 SECOND RUNS THAT THING WAS LOUDER THAN RICK'S VETTE !! That's the Bowland's BBR Shark. Multi-time national champion. It's quieter now, they added a muffler... and lost 10 hp (or something like that).

Happy Anniversary to the Bowland Boys! It was one year ago this month that they were the feature photo on the SCCA Calendar, June '05.

Probably a muffler made of Titanium or sumthin that weighs about 3 oz, and I bet it's shaped like another wing, givin' him even more downforce, cutting his times by .0973 sec!!

Took me forever to get around to posting.... and re-registering on the forums. I had a blast at the event! Sure, it was hot... but it wasn't as hot as Columbia the day before! Although, the whole day ended on a sour note with the annoying sport bike riders on the perimiter road... and the lack of response from the local police. Wouldn't it be nice to have a local police presence(complete with hidden police cruiser) at the end of an event to show them WE'RE not the ones doing stupid things at/near the event, and to catch the dummies in the act? Other than that, great event!

I know I'm late on this, but the DNF's were rediculous. I am sure that I could not walk any course and still find the 'way'. Calm down, breathe, and drive. Two DNF's say that there's something wrong with the driver, not the course.

Two DNF's say that there's something wrong with the driver, not the course. After one DNF, how do you avoid the second without someone pointing it out where? ? I asked at least 10 people, know one knew. It wasn't until the grid worker watched me and pointed it out, that I got it right, and then wrong again. Sometimes a couple extra cones help. Not 50, but a couple. It should flow nice, not be a maze of single upright cones. I'd only had it happen once before that weekend.

Biggest thing one can do is sketch a map of the course while walking it.. if you DNF you can usually figure out where by consulting your map....or for those of you AXing a lugsuurreee car..use your onboard navigation system...LOL
