Quote from the front page of the CCR Website:
"CCR needs help in many areas to continue its growth and internal development of future chairmen, specialty chiefs and event coordinators. Immediate needs include Equipment Chairman, Editor of the Newsletter and Merchandise Coordinator, Information Booth, and Communications. Contact Martin Bartlett or Dick McCollister. "
We are currently less than one week away from the annual 24 Hour Solo event, yet there is no link to registration on our site.
The results for the July 9 Solo event at NTI have not been posted on the CCR Site yet.
We have professional IT and Computer Professionals whom are competitors in CCR Solo, and whom have raised their hand to volunteer in helping to maintain the website relative to Solo results and event schedule links.
I know the club has other concerns and needs, but this shouldn't be one of them.
Why have we become the "second class citizens" of CCR?
If the website exists for reasons other than for the information and entertainment of CCR Members, what are those reasons? We (Solo competitors) are trying very hard to understand, but to this point, we don't understand.
Are we simply bound & determinied to fill the above mentioned positions first? At the expense of or Solo Program???

I'll be happy to write up some software that would allow any "authorized" person to add news, change event information, etc simply by logging in to a special admin page. It wouldn't take more than an hour or so to create.

Yes. We spoke about it shortly monday evening. In terms of getting someone on the CCRBOD, we're going to have to keep this thread alive and make it obvious that we believe this is important. Also, mentioning the idea to current board members whenever possible would help.
In terms of nominees, we thought of Steve Shin, Russ Myers, James (soloracer) and a few others. I was thinking John Byrd would be good too but that would be up to him. I'm not sure he wants to do it.

To put a few soloist on the board, takes the solo community to stand up for itself, the club racers tend to look at us as feeder program to get workers so that they can race. been there seen it. we are not looked upon as a program onto itself. It is the same coast to coast. we need strong Representatives that are soloist only. having served on the national Sac(stock advisory board) for seven years, and seen what politics can change peoples ideas. we need fresh blood that looks to better the Solo program. just my two cents
thanks Rob

Just bumped what i hope are significant threads. Some have shown progress. Time to do something constructive, here. One was started early june . Tomorrow is Sept 1. The website questions remain inert. NO CHANGE. Time to stop waiting on the ubiquitous someone and vote. Lobby. Step up. Anything but "letting things ride".
(folds up soapbox)(retires to the library to consider solutions.) James

I just got a nice card from the region about the PDX offering the 24hr event for free. It was well printed, informative, first class all the way. If it had come a little earlier I might have been able to do it. Might have been fun in the beetle. One of the first Sportscar mags I got after joining the SCCA had a letter from one of the higher ups in the national office about newsletters from individual clubs and regions. How some clubs didn't have one. If we wanted one, I'd volunteer to print and mail it. There could be a few people who pass info through e-mail about upcoming events and points and such. Not everyone uses the computer and if it were sent out three weeks or so before the event, maybe there would be more entries for some of the things that have low turn out. I couldn't seem to find much info about the PDX requirements, car wise anyway. If it went out to all the registered members of the region it might also make the solo crowd more important to the regional/roadrace/ crowd. Did we have one in the past? Do we want one in the future? I'll write it and print it, just need some help with postage. Our NPO status would get us a price break at the PO. Greg

We do get a newsletter once or twice a year. Having been in CCR for 20 years I've seen the newsletter go from good, to bad, to decent, to gone.
With so much information on-line and available in a flash, printed newsletters are going away.
Our Miata club is only mailing newsletters to members that don't have e-mail addresses and are not on-line. Of the 200 members, I think we mail 10 printed newsletters. Just doing this is saving the club several hundred dollars a year.

These issues are being addressed, Jeannie. Indeed, the board is interested in our concerns and taking steps to address them.
Things are begining to happen in a very positive way.

Thank you so much for the offer! Steven? Martin? Others? Hopefully your offer will not go unnoticed. Just to be safe though, would you post this in a PM to Steve? He does check them (when he's not at work or racing or getting ready to race or twistin' a wrench)

Greg's newsletter could be supercool. The editorial stuff is the hard work and if greg wants to volunteer I'm all for it.
I think the newsletter should be targeted to the region and not just our club - maybe call it Carolina Solo? (carolinasolo.org is available)
I'll donate technical help and some unix web hosting if you want an online and offline version.

How about members offering to step up and writing some editorials to help alleviate some of the world load? I think it would keep some more interested as you would get a different view of the events as opposed to one person's view all of the time. It would keep the newspaper "fresh". I'm not saying the whole newsletter, but possibly one section that the members could contribute to everyday.

The big challenge with newsletters is getting articles. The Miata club has the same problem. We went from 6 per year to 4 because members just wouldn't submit anything. The club officers (I've been one for 8 years) just can't do it all. I'd bet that CARNEWS will be the same way.
