This is why I'm a car guy!! Unfortunatley I had to miss todays race due to my radiator being damaged while exiting out to the main road today. The exiting road had ridges that came up about 6 inches...I didn't even notice how high they were until I was already scraping. Luckily it just torn a whole in the Rad and can be welded back again like new. The reason I wanted to write this though was to let you know that I was in a major bind as it is hard to get a tow truck out quickly and one that would not damage the crap out of my car. At the time I arrived Mark was the only one who had a trailer...not only a new trailer but a new truck to tow it with. When I asked for his help he DID NOT hesitate even for a moment and said sure...without even knowing how hard it was to get my lowered car on a trailer or even where I live. To make a long story short it took us about an hour to get the car up on the trailer without ripping the entire front end off....Mark very professionally acted as though he had nothing better to do with 2 hours of his day then to haul my car around. Great guy and a huge HUGE help to me today. Mark I thank-you my friend and if you ever need anything please just ask!!

Rick - I saw you guys leaving when I got there on Saturday. I'm sorry to hear about the radiator, that sucks. We should have given directions coming from South Tryon, no big ruts that direction. What you describe with Mark helping out is why I keep coming back to CCR... and many other racers are the same, willing to help out a competitor. I know that I've helped work on cars that were competing against my dad at road races, its just part of the friendship among racers. Show us the smae thing NASCAR! Kudos Mark!!

Ugh, I know that spot where the radiator got damaged. It's the outside left turn from Granite onto Westinghouse, and because all of these 18 wheelers use that lane, over the years a very deep groove has developed, resulting in the center portion of the lane to rise dramatically. When I was lowered on Eibachs I would scrape it every time.
Glad to hear Mark helped out, I'm not surprised he did, he's a great guy.

Yup exactly what happened I was there very early and just left the paddock are to grab some coffee. Did not eaven realize how deep the ruts were until the car was already scraping and then it was just too late. The Vettes are actually very well protected from unterneath, but I'm using an aftermarket much bigger radiator that just sits down ~2 inches lower than the rest of the car.

Kudos to Willie Stock who had the wood to shim it, Scott Grumbles and Corvette Tom who made it all possible. I feel bad about the split lip on your rocket ship. I also feel bad because after you came back I remembered the road being like that. Sue works in that industrial park and I noticed it Friday when I dropped off the van and drove home with her but, I never thought of how it might impact the event.
It was the least I could do. I've had as many mechanical DNFs as anybody, the stories I could tell you, and every time there has enthusiastic help in abundance. As Rich mentioned, you see it at other levels of racing as well. At this year's Hill Climb there were several instances of folks pitching in to help someone who had a problem. Me included on both ends. It's what racers do.

Yikes! Too bad about your car. I almost got stuck in the same situation. I had to back up away from the stop light to prevent from going over the bumps. I did scrape a little.
If we ever do an event at Continental again, someone should mention the condition of the road on the registration page.

I crossed over those ruts when I was leaving in the truck.....Holy moly...I'm glad I didn't go get gas like I was going to earlier or that thing might have claimed two vette radiators in the same day.

For the next event that we use Conti., make sure directions are from South Tryon! No rail road tracks, no deep grooved pavement, much better!!!
Directions (for those that don't know): I-485 to South Tryon. Turn south onto South Tryon. Turn left onto Westinghouse. Turn left onto Pioneer Ave at John's Resturant. Turn right onto Conti. Blvd.
