This was suggested by another gentleman in another thread but I thought that it was a decent idea myself and decided to see if other folks thought similarly.
I do work in relation to the Grand American Rolex Series...and they too have a 24hr race (Daytona 24hr to start the season). But that's not their only endurance race. They just had the 9 hour at Miller Park this weekend and I believe they do another 12 hour race in the middle of the year as well.
So why couldn't we do something similar? I know the 24 is something of a major undertaking...but given the amount of fun that comes out of it, perhaps have a sibling race for it might be a good addition to the schedule? Have a 12 hour event in addition to the 24.
Now, I admit that I haven't the first clue as to how much work setting up one of these events is....but I can't help think about how much fun could be had. Plus....we'd make this region stand out even more from the rest.
If this is a dumb idea, isn't feasible or has been discussed and discarded before...then I appoligize for bringing it up.
Anyway....what'choo guys think?

I think it would be a great Idea to have like a 12pm-12am event. But the thing is, that it must be a holiday weekend, so people can have some time to recover on Monday. lol

i don't agree with that. If the event is only 12 hours and you leave at midnight you have all of sunday to recover. i only did the first 12 hours of the 24 and still had time to mess with my car today and relax too.

If we could get a lot of you newer and more energized folk to become core staff it can happen. This was my first 9 hour twenty four hour event since 1997, and I for one can say uneuivocally that without the support and depth of coverage of my other safety staff I could not have endured another 24 hour event.
Maybe it's time for a new vanguard to jump forward and assume more resonsibility for these events.

Just curious...but is there a particular reason why AutoX's are usually held on Sundays?

Typically a day when most people have off from work.

Ah...that makes sense. Didn't know if there was some sort of tradition or something behind it.

Typically a day when most people have off from work. That, too. Sort of a tradition also. In the early days of the sport, blue laws prevailed and malls (then called "shopping centers')were closed. can you imagine our choice of lots if all super k-Wal-china- marts were closed? James

Well. CCR did a bunch of sattidy ones for a couple of years, and i rather liked that as I often travel to my job on Sunday (those weeks when I am working out of town). Fortunately, I have had the chance this year to avoid missing any events. But, if we did a 12 hour - we could do a saturday event - we've done them before!

It wouldn't have to be Noon to Midnight or Midnight to Noon either, maybe 6:00am to 6:00pm, or if ya wanna race until dark, 8:00am to 8:00pm, beat all the traffic,..... Just a thought, (my .02)

Good Idea Mark!!! I like that...we could even call it the "Longest Day of Autocross"!!! Another event that will put CCR on the map!
And it would be serious fun too....hmmm - I am thinking 9am - 9 pm, so it is all daylight!!!!

Find out the sunset time for June the 21st (or the Sunday closest) and have the first car off 12 hours earlier. Should avoid noise ordinances that way.

Wow...I didn't really expect the idea to take off like this. I'd love to see it happen next year...and it seems like it's got enough folks interested that perhaps it could.
Since the format has basically been discussed...anyone have any ideas as to where it might be held? It would be cool if we could get a location that was more than just a parking lot, though that's just a rather vague idea.

Not sure if they would let us in BofA Stadium, not to mention the damage to the turf!! ;D[/quote] BofA stadium? Is that where they play bofutbal? Seriously, love the idea. To even up things say ten runs and out? the challenge would be picking the optimum time to make them. say 5 count.. like the 24. Pick five. then if it gets slow, and everyone "times out", then it would be a test and tune. Make any sense?
just thinkin' James

I always seem to get my best time the next morning. Seems like it is a matter of rubber on course or something. with 12 hours we could prob get in 10-12 runs. If we did it hat way, folks who are working, etc. would be able to get in all their runs and there should be no problem (I think) with timing 10 or 12 runs per participant. But if we set the number of runs, it would help with lines and all - just one thought. The other is to do it wide open, like the 24 and you just run as much as you can - chances are it will still work out about the same.
Gee this is FUN!!!! Good idea DamnYankee!

I liked the wide open format of the 24....which is sort of what I was going for when I suggested a second event of that nature.
You know what might be fun is a course with an elevation change or two. That would make the course really fun.
