So what's it like? The Nov. 12th event will be my first event there...so I'm sorta curious what the surface is like...and how courses are generally laid out. Are they fast? Tight? What?

It's like a parking lot with an asphalt surface. Courses are generally laid out mostly different. Some are fast....some are tight.....and some are what. It's really really really easy to see. Just drive down I77 and take the first exit past the SC Welcome center. Turn left at the top of the exit and cross back over I77. Then take the first right past the gas station. You can't help but find it. You know what they say, don't you? ? A Picture is wurph a thousand words. You should know that!!! IN fack, that would be a good test. Drive down there and study the pavement for a while. Then you can try to answer questions like.....will R Compound Tires grip better there than street tires? I think R Compounds are better for Knights than street tires. Anybody else?

My first event ever was at knights as well. This is my first year running and I can't tell the difference between types of asphalt with the exception of K-town. Loud sealer there! Just get there early, walk it at least 4 times. Make sure there isn't a crowd in front of you while you walk, you want to see where you're going. Take advantage of the Novice walk through if there is one and get to the head of that pack while walking. If you're worried about the surface and sand, grab a broom. There should be plenty of them. Usually it's decent in that respect because there are always a few sweeping the corners out. There is almost always some sort of cross-over if not two, one on each half. The course is divided into two sections by a set of islands, the two being connected most times by a straight away. Corners there could mean curb/car interface. Bad. Always a good sweeper or two, a slolom or two and a tight corner or jog as required to slow you down for the finish. I've heard complaints about the asphalt wearing out in the lower parts of the lot, but the course designer tends to avoid these areas anyway, probobly because of that. Does that help?
