As has been stated in previous posts, there are some interesting matchups coming up this Sunday that could very well decide who takes home the season title. I figured I would consolidate them in one thread to highlight them. Only classes where entrants have run a minimum of four events up to this point are included, you need at least five to qualify for a season trophy.
Oh, and feel free to start talking smack if necessary. ;D
Super Stock (SS) John McGrath is leading Justin Miklas in a battle of the SS Corvettes by 8 points. As of this post neither has pre-registered, but if Miklas runs and McGrath is a no show the title will go to Justin.
C Stock (CS) John Freeman in his '04 Mazdaspeed Miata has a 5 point advantage going into the last event over Richard Raley in his '01 Toyota MR2 Spyder.
H Stock (HS) Brian Guinn and his '03 Mazda Protege will look to overcome a 2 point deficit to the '90 Honda CRX piloted by Jeff Raley.
C Street Prepared (CSP) Willie Stock, driving a '91 Miata is currently the points leader in CSP by a mere 2 points, with Jeremy Cox, also in a '91 Miata in second place. This should be an interesting battle to the end.
E Prepared (EP) Nothing like a classic father/son matchup to bring out some health competition. The Fierce Fiesta has definitely made a splash in CCR this year, and the battle between Shane and Colin Findlan will go down to the wire. The younger Colin leads his dad by 3 points, and with two other entrants already pre-registered, it should be an interesting Sunday.
Street Touring 2 (STS2) All season this has been a very intriguing 3 way race between John "Mr. Grumpy" Byrd, Rich "Master Tech" Little, and Mike "You like my slippers?" Casino. Unfortunately due to a relocation, Mike had to miss two crucial events putting him out of contention for the title at 3rd place. John piloting his famous '96 BMW "Bring it on Miatas" Z3 will battle against Rich's '94 Miata for the season title. This is definitely one not to miss folks.
Street Touring X (STX) Mike Winn and his '02 WRX leads Steven Kornhaus, also in an '02 WRX, by 8 points. It would take a no show by Mike and a 1st place by Steven for anything to change at this point.
Pro I saved the best for last guys. The only class where the current season points are DEAD EVEN. In one corner, we have Steven Rankins, our current and outgoing Solo Chair who has the appreciation and gratitude of all participants, piloting his vaunted '06 WRX STi. In the other corner, we have the "Swedish Chef" Per Ezelius, driving his '05 Mini Cooper S. This title could go to either driver, and is definitely the spotlight competition of our Points Finale. May the best driver win!

I could still manage second in STS2 if Rich finishes 5th or worse and I come in first.

I have no hope whatsoever. Darn that Clark Doggett, darn him to heck. Oh, and I guess the other 7 people in front of me...... but mostly Clark!

What is the points system CCR uses? I can't find it on the website or forums.

What is the points system CCR uses? I can't find it on the website or forums. From what I read on Steve's listing the points fall like this: 1st - 9 2nd - 6 3rd - 4 4th - 3 5th - 2 6ht - 1

Rich or JB, either of you mind me running in STS2 on Sunday? I don't want to mess up your point race by finishing first.
What's the tie breaker if point total is equal?

That and only running a few events... As Mikey found out, you have to make all the events. Well, I think even more than showing up I actually need to learn how to drive.... Some sways, a seat, and hopefully some headers over the winter should help too......on top of the timing belt this is going to be an expensive winter!

Matt, I certainly don't mind, and we've already got some pretty formidable competition signed up......Nello fresh from his near upset at NTI, Justin M who has been flyin' lately, and somebody in a Miata I don't even know.
Truthfully, more people could work either for me or against me.
If Rich wins and I finish second, we're tied. By my account as I remember the tie-breakers, that would give the edge to Rich based on his having more 3rd place finishes. If Rich finishes 2nd and I finish 4th (which I have done in 3 of the last 4 events), again we are tied with the advantage going to Rich.
So from one perspective, it would help me if Rich didn't win, but the more cars we have competing could increase the chances for me to finish more than one spot back from him.
With that said, I always say the more the merrier....and STS2 is certainly going to attract quite a bit of attention and competition next year. Stuart is co-driving with me, but he will run PRO class.
But in the final analysis, which ever one of us wins will have to beat the other. We've been here all year; it's been fun; and each of us knows what he has to do to win the Championship.
I really want to win, but if Rich pulls it out I will be very happy for him and proud of him. He's come such a long way from last year, and I really make no pretenses about not having my hands full......be it in a field of 2 cars or 20.
Just remember Florence....when I was working on 8-in-a-row.....how did I respond to the increased effort to stop me? I responded by bringing in more competition....not by discouraging it. I think it always means more to win when there's a lot of competition. Still though, it would be fine with me if it were simply head-to-head.
By me.....you're welcome to come.

Some sways, a seat, and hopefully some headers over the winter should help too......on top of the timing belt this is going to be an expensive winter! Parts are fine and needed but, there's no substitute for seat time. Jeremy Cox drove my car at the 24hrs and just about beat me in his 2 runs...I've only been driving for 3 full seasons(and changing classes to boot), he's driven for over a decade and it shows. Also, it's much more difficult to learn to drive without doing events. IMHO, you can learn to drive better on the street from AutoX, you can't learn to AutoX driving on the street(I'm sure that will get a rise out of some). See you @ Knights. Mark CSP111

I have a great idea. Would someone print the point standings and bring them to the event sunday? If we had a copy in the timing trailer, the announcer could have some better commentary!

As long as you don't win, I don't mind! ;D Tell ya what, I'll finish first, you 2nd, Mikey 3rd, JB 4th... How about that? It's going to be a close battle... JB and I were less than a 10th apart at NTI... Hey, if you show up and win, that's racing... come on out...
