...help kids with diabetes.
I am about to ask for donations/pledges for a charitable cause and this could be long - but it involves my participation in an automotive event that will get national media coverage, in a car some of you have seen me autocross, and I am going to offer something in return - so please read on.
First, I regret to announce I will not be competing in the next event at NTI - I'll be driving in America's British Reliability Run that weekend instead.
(see www.abrr.org/ )
I'll be driving my Triton (lime) Green 1980 Triumph TR8 which some of you may recall I autocrossed in some CCR events for 2 years before I started autocrossing the TR6 last year.
I'm going to paste in the text of a 1-page flyer i made up - if you want to see the full version, complete with color ABRR logo and color picture of Team Limey, email me at LimeyV8@aol.com and I'll email it to you.

The Muk-Luk Brothers ride again! This time it’s for a good cause. It’s not that any of the other road trips we’ve done weren’t good causes - I thought driving to Connecticut in a January snow storm to collect a dead Triumph was a great cause – this one will actually benefit charity. We’re going to drive The Limey V8 (my Triton Green 1980 TR8) in America’s British Reliability Run - an annual event in which up to 50 British cars attempt to complete a 700 to 800 mile drive in 30 hours or so. Participants solicit pledges and donations, to benefit a children’s charity, for completing the run. This year’s run will start in Massillon, Ohio, on October 14th and cover about 700 miles through rural Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky before ending back in Massillon the next day. The 2006 Run will benefit Camp Ho Mita Koda – a camp which helps children with diabetes live well with their disease by learning more about diabetes, and self management of it, in a fun, safe camp environment. (Learn more about the camp at www.camphomitakoda.org ) All of the money raised by The 2006 America’s British Reliability Run (teams pay their own expenses) will go directly to “Camperships” to enable financially challenged families to send a child to the camp.
I know you’re anxious to hear how you can support this effort and donate $10, $25, $50 or more to help these kids. But wait, there’s more: in addition to the satisfaction of helping this good cause, you will receive all sorts of entertaining updates on our participation. Pledge or donate now, and before our departure on October 13, I’ll send you the complete story of previous Jack and Randy road trips - including how we earned the nickname “The Muk-Luk Brothers” - as well as an update on our preparation for this one. If my lap top will fit in the boot of the TR8 along with all of Randy’s silly hats, I’ll email you a daily update of our progress on the trip. Most importantly, sometime after we get back, I’ll send you a copy of the ridiculously long, but hilariously entertaining story I plan to write about the trip – complete with photographic evidence of the fun had by all.
Would you like to use your credit card to donate now? That’s easy. Go to www.abrr.org and click Donate Now in the upper right corner. Please enter Driver’s name Jack McGahey and Team Limey V8 in the appropriate spots when the form opens. While you’re at the ABRR web site, click on Event Details and check out the incredible variety of British cars entered for this year’s event. Click on Prior Run Recaps and check out the articles from national and international magazines about previous runs.
Want to pledge a donation by cash or check? Email your pledge to me at LimeyV8@aol.com and plan on having the funds in my hands before October 13th. Make checks payable to Camp Ho Mita Koda – you may mail those to me at 8102 Acton Court, Mint Hill, NC 28227 – and date them October 13, 2006 if you’d like – or October 15 if you’d like to make your donation contingent on our completion of this run (as if there’s any doubt).
Email me at LimeyV8@aol.com if you’d like to share this page (I’ll email you a copy) with anyone interested in making a tax-deductible charitable donation in this unique and fun-filled way.
Thanks for your support!
