I know this is probably an onxmoron but what would be some good tires to look at in the $100 range? right now i am looking at something like a 195-50 15 but may be looking at some 16" tires if i can buy some bigger wheels.

For street tires, the Hankook R-S2 Z212 is a great value. You can get it for $75 per tire from Discount Tire Direct with free shipping.
For R compounds you will not find anything for under $100. Also the only 15" size is 205/50. The cheapest is the venerable Kumho Victoracer which is $134 per tire plus shipping.

The 'Kook is $63 at Edge Racing in 195/50R15. Most of the "street touring" tires are 205/50R15. Thats the only size the Azenis come in. www.edgeracing.com/

Azenis are less than 100 bucks in that size and are great tires... but it is cheaper to just steal them when Lagooney isn't looking...as long as his wheels will fit yer car...

I am running the 195/50-15 Hankook R-S2s on my 89 MR2 and they work great (and like Steve noted above, they are only $75/each shipped from DTD).
Also what class will the car be running as that will make a difference on what tires you are allowed to run?

If you can afford it, get R-compounds. As I stated in my last post, you will not find anything for under $100, the only 15" size is 205/50 and the cheapest is the Kumho Victoracer which is $134 per tire plus shipping from Tire Rack.
I ran this past weekend on R-compounds for the very first time (Kumho V710s) in GS and had an absolute blast. The grip was just phenomal and there's nothing like it. I can't go back to street tires ever again, in my opinion it makes for an entirely different experience.

Ive driven several cars on both RS2s and RT615s, and the 615s win handsdown! The kooks take a lot of setup to be fast, where the 615s are fast right out of the box.. Much better response and feel.

FWIW, I'm running on Hankook Z211s at the moment (50 treadlife DOT R-comps) and they are on closeout at Frisby Race Tire (which is where I bought mine). They have 2 different 15-inch sizes available and both are under $100/each (205/50-15 for $95, 225/50-15 for $99). www.frisbyracetire.com/z211sale.htmlThey appear to be similar in grip to Kumho Victoracers, Kumho Ecsta V700s or Toyo RA-1s from what I can tell thus far. BTW, in E-Prepared, you aren't restricted to DOT legal tires and can buy full race slicks instead if you so choose.

Go to a national race event and buy a set of slicks from a serious competitor. Usually about a hundred bux a set.

Take off slicks is a great idea....That is all I run on the Fiesta...some of the Club racers will use them for qualifying only and then dump them. Couple of folks sell them including Berger Tires, etc.
Volksman runs super soft "American Racers" which is the old McCreary racing tire lineup. Seemed to work well and they were cheap from what he said. Big suckers....real big. Stock car kinda BIG....
