Planning on autocrossing Triumph TR8 in E Stock - choices for R-Comp tires in proper size have shrunk considerably since the last time I did this. Kumho Victoracer and Hossier A6 no longer available in 205/60 13 - I was all set to try new Toyo Proxes R888 in that size, but the dealer (who doesn't have the R888 yet) suggested Hossier A6 in 225/45 13 - says he has put them on 6 in rims but never 5.5. Anyone with experience in doing this please comment.
Other possibilities might be Avon ACB10 Sport DOT or Avon CR500, but information on those is pretty thin as they are not generally marketed on this side of the pond - anybody know anything about those?
Thanks, Jack Mc

Talk to Richard Hunter (and Glen Murphy) about Avons... think he had some favorable experience in initial trial.... not sure on long term?

Would the 215/50-13 Kumho V710 fit? Also, keep in mind that Hankook makes a 225/45-13 in their Z214 and it's pretty inexpensive compared to the other DOT-R tires, too: www.frisbyracetire.com/z214pricesspecs.html (the C70 series is the "autocross" compound)

I don't know why i hadn't noticed that one - maybe because its really a road racing tire - any thoughts or experience with how it performs and lasts in an autocross situation? I did find someone willing to send me a used Hossier 225/45-13 and a 225/50-13 for test fittting - they're on the way - that will be interesting and maybe ugly too. Thanks, Jack Mc

The V710 is a *great* autocross tire. I ran that tire on my 99 2.5RS and now am running a used set of V710s on my WRX (had Hankook Z211s on previously and will probably switch to Hankook Z214 C70 tires when the V710s wear out). Keep in mind that it took the A6 to regain parity with the V710 after it put the smackdown on the previous Hoosier (i.e. the A3S05). So it's definitely an autocross tire, too. Plus the V710s wear surprisingly slow for the amount of grip they have. They don't last as long as a Victoracer or anything, but they wear far better than the Hoosiers. The only reason I don't plan to stay on V710s on my WRX is the lack of the ideal size for my car (they have a 245/45-17 and a 225/45-17, but the 245/40 and 235/40 sizes are far better for the WRX for gearing reasons).

I wonder if I could mount that same tire on my 13X5.5 wheels for my Fiat X1/9 without rubbing anything... interesting...

Jack, I am sure it can be done. They have put 275's on 6 or 6.5 rims before and they worked good enouhg for a natinal championship
