Hey, I've been meaning to ask y'all about mechanics around the Columbia area, those of you who live around here or know the area. Two questions: 1. Do you know a good, honest mechanic who can work on Saabs? (One of my friends here thinks his water pump died...) 2. Do you know a good, honest mechanic who can work on Hondas? (Probably easier to find...) It's not a pressing matter or anything...I just want to know so that IF my car breaks down around town I at least know where to get it towed . I know dealerships supposedly do good work, but I'm pretty pessimistic about the value of that. (Sorry if any of you work at one.) My olde Brick died in Bham once and I took it to the only place I knew of (the dealership). The alternator was the thing that had died...$600. But then I needed a new battery cable (true): $280. And they said I needed all new belts (okay, whatever): $460. Oh, yeah, and they said my timing belt "needed" changing (HAHA we had just had it changed less than 5k miles ago---CAUGHT YA!!!! ) ... Add a few other random things and the Grand total was something like $2400...more than the car was worth. Haha so we fixed it ourselves. Anywaayyysss... all that to say that I want to find an HONEST mechanic who actually knows what he's doing too...

lol, of course it doesn't hurt to know good mechanics everywhere! ;D My current car hasn't broken down yet (I think it's too new---less than 100k woo hoo!), but in the Brick I never knew where it would break down. Funny thing was, it went 5 years being the best car anyone in my family had (besides the OLD Brick), and then it broke down 5-6 times in 2 months! That's why I don't drive it anymore...we didn't think it'd make the 7 hr drive to and from home on the holidays...

Aimee, ask this on the SCR Forum. You'll get a lot of responses about Columbia threre.

Yes.
If you haven't figured it out yet, Aimee is in Columbia. That's SCR...not CCR, and she did ask the question there.
She got some sensible answers, too.

Since the logical answer would be to either say 1. "check it out on the SCR board" or 2. "Hillyard Automotive in Columbia is an active SCCA supporter, Honda Racer, and long-time experienced Honda Service Center," I would contend I gave her the most sensible answer to her question.
I digress.

lol... Y'all are funny! JB has a very good point...if my car actually breaks down in town, the likelihood that I would get it towed (by a prof or otherwise) 45 min-2 hr is kinda small. So, in that light, Hilliard is the most logical choice... However, if you consider the fact that those two places *might* be on the way to autocrosses in the CCR region (?)...I suppose it would be good to know other places too... *shrugs* But I honestly hope I wouldn't break down that far from home! It has been known to happen, just not in my current car. ;D
