What a great weekend!!!! Thanks to Steve, Vickie, Mark, Sue, Nicholas, Wesley, Tony, Dick and all the other people who worked so hard to make this happen. From great sponsors, Wolf Laurel hosts, to super course workers... thanks so much from all of us in attendance. While there were a few challenges and problems, I think we had a great event... more entries, more spectators, more competition and more great times with sports car lovers! Oh yeah...and more people looking forward to Eagle's Nest and returning to Wolf Ridge NEXT YEAR!!! The Wolf did manage to bite a few cars,,, but nothing where a driver was hurt. A few of them may have gotten hurt when they got home and their wives got a hold of them!! We were all glad event was run safely! There are now 4 people in the TMC ("two minute club")... First George Bowland - 2007 Second - Stan Vann Saturday 2008 Third - Ted Theodore - Sunday 2008 Fourth - Steven Rankins - Sunday 2008 Incredible run in that Subaru Congrats to Stan Vann for taking the FTD... my prediction was right that he would be the King of the Hill but at least he had to work for it a little! I just wish George had been here to see Stan win...but then... ;D ;D ;D ;D it might have been different!!! Next year, Dave C. and I are coming after you Stan! SO many new class records, new hillclimbers, THIS SPORT IS GROWING. IF you want to get involved, just come watch a hillclimb or coursework... you will learn a bunch. That's step one... and the step where you are strapped in a car in a nomex suit and helmet running up a hill in a car .... is NOT a giant leap. You'd be surprised. It's not as hard or as expensive as you think. Thanks again for a great time ... getting to share this weekend with my 18 year old son for his first hillclimb made it a weekend I won't forget. Congrats TJ on 3rd in Elvira in CSP on your first hillclimb in a competitive class... and one other thing bud, don't ever let me walk in our garage and catch you sitting in BANDIT!!! No chance....don't even think about it!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I had a good time driving the hill, I will be back next year if they have it.
The cabin setup was nice, it was very convenient to be a minute from the paddock.

Steve, Vicki, Wesley, Nick and all the staff at Wolf Ridge did a great job. Lots of runs and the weather was great! It's great to be a part of such a great sport. The Agony/Ecstasy Award goes to Willie Stock and the Best Supporting Cast has to go to Steve E. & Steven R. who managed to get Willie's ride running.
Sorry to hear about Elvira's rear end but congrats to TJ & jeremy for great drives on their first Hill Climb.
Also of note is Gary Ramsey who was doing his first SCCA event, first Hill and the first time he's turned right, intentionally. After decades of circle track success he goes out and gets 5th overall and first in SPO setting a new class record and nearly broke into the 2 Minute Club. Amazing.
Now, to get ready for Eagle's Nest...

All I can say to all GREAT JOB. What a show! I really enjoyed watching you all thru the viewfinder all weekend. All drivers did a great job and really thrilled us at Turn 6 on Saturday. Many pictures of locked tires into the hairpin. Most fun was watching almost every body really unloading the suspension at the spectator area. I got some really neat photos with daylight showing under some of the tires. I will have all the photos up tonight! Again, thanks for a great show and great weekend. Thanks to Wolf Ridge for having us again and hope this stays a regular event. Richard Hunter www.huntersrun.photoreflect.com

Overall, I enjoyed working this weekend. Thanks to Ted for getting me out there. Even though he conned me into working a corner (lol), I think it had the normal effect on me: It made me want to get out there and drive even more. You Hill Climb guys be on the lookout for a Blue 350Z next year. Now I just gotta find a 4 point roll bar....a suit, gloves, etc...some other stuff....and then find a place to get my license! But thanks to everyone who made learning what to do really easy. I had plenty of great examples and found everything really easy to fall into. Next time I go stand out in the woods for an extended period....I'll be much better prepared (1. a Chair 2. Portable Shade 3. Cooler 4. Some kind of portable bug light) . Oh...and for the record....I still want to be Pace 2 for next year. I'm thinking we need a Medium HP RWD Car to chase that Subie up the hill....

Also congrats to Harvey Cash and Mike Smith ... looking forward to seeing you both at Eagle's Nest. Both of these guys trophied at Wolf Ridge but they have some cosmetics to do but nothing that can't be fixed with White Out and buffing compound...<s>

THANKS to everyone. I know as well as you that my first and maybe last King of the Hill was a case of the stars being in alignment just this weekend. With George Bowland up in Pennsylvania and Ted just learning the limits of the famous historic Bandit, and Steve being distracted just enough with getting Willie's engine management to manage or whatever black magic you kids do with those laptops, and Tommy Richardson's monster Vette was right there, but for a mysterious fuel pickup issue. Anyway, what a great weekend with friends, great facilities, great hosts, and great weather. I bet all of you already miss those cool mountain breezes this morning. I do. Thanks to all the corner marshals and organizers. I know that these things don't happen without a lot of work and I do appreciate all you do.

Ted,
I was really impressed with your runs on Saturday. I believe you were in the 204 second range. I was at 205 and thought I would use you as my benchmark on Sunday.
Wow!! What a pereformance. Your 1st hillclimb in the "Bandit' and under 2 minutes at Wolf's Ridge no less. The best I could do was a 203.
With more seat time to get comfortable in the car, I know a couple of traveling buddies of mine that are going to be anxiously looking over their shoulders at a set of steam roller tires with wings.
Everyone needs to keep an eye out for Stan's in car video taken on Saturday - you will not believe how quick that old farmer's reflexes are.
Stan, was under 2 minutes on Saturday. While we were watching his video at the cabin, Richard Franklin called him "Sub 2 minute Stan".
Daphne, Stan's wife said "Yep, that pretty well describes Stan".
Thanks to everyone involved for a great weekend!

OK, whoever monitors this site, please delete this off color humor and block those two. I'm really suprised Dave is still alive after driving 480 miles home last night. I just made it myself at 400.

Don't really know where to start, a big thank you to everyone who made this weekend possible for me, Steve E with all the alligator's nipping your heals you still found time to help me get running,Steven Rankin's you gave up almost a whole day of running to tackle a engine management you've never seen before and got me to where I could finally get some run's in on Sun. there was a gentlemen that I know only as Chris that downloaded my EMS software into Steve's lap top and spent most of the day Sat. helping me go through all the mechanical trouble shooting you disappeared before I could really thank you, Richard Hunter for helping hunt down a AFR sensor, Kieth Taylor for letting me have his good AFR sensor, Traci that work's at the lodge for searching the web with me looking for a speed shop local that I might find a AFR sensor for sale, Mark Seiler for letting me try his Igniter, Jeremy C. Ted Theodore and Dagmar for bringing a laptop from home for us,Chris Barrett for the healing embrace he gave my car Sat. night and all the moral support trying to pry my lower lip off the ground from pouting, Jamie Stock for having to work part day Fri. and having to bring a second car so I could drive back to Statesville Fri. night to get EMS software, Jane Rankins and Vicki E for letting Steve and Steven spend so much time helping me., I know I have probably forgotten some one here but only because they're were so many people right there trying to help, I am very humbled and thankful to be involved with such great friend's and competitors. Sun. when Steven was trying some new maps all the sudden bam it sounded like it turned into a V-8 then we realized Tommy Richardson had fired up his Vette, that thing is bad to the bone. Anyway Thank you everyone for making my weekend possible and thank you Wolfridge for another awesome hillclimb being up there feels like being back home thank you to all the workers and sponsors, cant wait for next year..........Willie

All - had an awesome time this weekend. It was just as much fun 'laptop wrenching' on Willie's car as it was going up the mountain. I only wish we could have made it run correctly, instead of just kind of running. I was happy to find out this morning from Dick that Willie won, so congrats Willie. Beating those Cox boys ain't easy (I know you're watching J. Cox. ) I can't explain just how thrilled I was to find out that one run Sunday was under 2 minutes. I am certain many more non-open wheelers will make their way under 2 minutes in future runnings, but I must say I am damn proud to get to be the first! I'll post a video of my quick run in the other thread shortly. Steven

This is/was what hillclimbs are all about: great entries, fast runs, racers helping racers, organizers putting on a great event, officials working hard to make sure everyone had a good time and last, great hosts, who want us back year after year.
To all you first-time racers and workers, we say a big THANK YOU for coming and supporting our sport.
Hope to see all of you and see you dragging along friends for Eagle's Nest in August.

This getting pictures up is harder than it looks.. mine finally went up this afternoon... www.racerjon.com/photography/events/wolfridge08/wolfridge2008.htmlI had a blast taking pictures, I think it's the next best thing to being in the car, and the PRDS (Photographers Rapid Delivery System) - a certain pair of AWD cars - was awesome. I am going to have to find something with cheap fenders and corners though, as I really need to do one of these things, and I am afraid my willingness to use the curbing, dirt and grass in time trials is going to cause some issues... I am so very proud of Stan. Very, very deserving. King of the Hill to the consumate hillclimber. Loved watching your video, good save. You did right, stayed off brakes, gave the car time to catch up. No drastic moves with the wheel. You are the Hillclimber! Congrats from myself and John-boy....we are down in Beaufort NC as we speak.
Also impressed with Ted. I think ya`ll have your hands full. Sounds like a good race between Tommy and Steve. Two awesome drivers there.
Any word if George broke the record up at WEatherly?

Mash, John-Boy, Thanks so much for the compliment. It means a great deal coming from you. We all miss you guys so much. It's just not the same. Please come back when you can. You've got quite a few more years before you reach my age, so don't discount it. Keep in touch. BTW, George got within about 4/10 second of the record up there, but the hot/humid conditions made it impossible. We did not have that problem. The temps up at Wolf were in the 80s, tops.

It really makes all the hours of work worth while when everyone enjoys the weekend. Hillclimbs are more like a family reunion than a race. It just seems like when we get there a race always breaks out!! Ted pretty well covered all the people that gave so much to make WR happen. What you don't always see are the people that just drop everything and come to help. This year was payback to Willie and many others. Last year when we were done racing and everyone went for awards, Willie hooked up his trailer and helped us tear down tire walls. Enough said. We got bagged by about 8 confirmed workers but everyone just steps up and gets it done. Could not have done it without Amy,Jon, and Hayward in Timing. So many people worked corners that were there to watch. Thank you so much. When I started hillclimbing it was JK Jackson and others that were working to give me a place to play. Just my turn to give back and see that the joy of hillclimbs lives on.
Regards, Steve Eckerich CCRSCCA ast. RE Race Chair

Thanks very much to everyone that came out for the great event and for those that were so sympathetic that the SPO Subaru didn't make its first appearance. I had a great time hanging out with everyone and I think Rick and I managed to get more runs than anybody, I lost count around 35. It was a blast, and went quite smoothly with very little down time and/or problems. Race control, timing, and course workers were without a doubt TOP NOTCH!!!! You folks are the main reason that events go well and deserve more pats on the back than any of us can ever give you. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Looking forward to seeing many of you at Eagles Nest, and I might actually have a reason to be in a driver's suit this time around! Cross your fingers! Thanks again!
