Update: 061908 Round three (3) of the Continental Tire - Triple Crown Time Trial Series (Rock-in Road Hillclimb, August 2-3,2008) will decide the Series winners and also the winners of the Continental tire sets. If you are a driver that has competed in the Memorial Monster Track Trial and the Wolf Ridge Hillclimb then you have a very good chance of being not only a class winner but the recipient of your choice of a set of Continental/General tires. These classes now have drivers in the running for tires and trophies for the series. CSP, SPO, ITO, FV, EP, FF, SM, SPEC, ITA, IT7, ITE Now pay attention! If all the pre-qualified drivers show up and compete at Eagles Nest. Eleven first place drivers will be in a drawing!(See above) Three second place drivers will be in a drawing! (CSP,ITO,SM) One third place driver will be in a drawing! (CSP) This is in addition to the regular event trophies! BTW: All Rock-in Road HC drivers will need to have Continental stickers on their competition vehicle and will pose with their car for the event driver & car photo shoot. This will be done while you are in line (1st Morning practice) staging to run. Drivers will have the option of sitting in the car or posing beside it for their photo. As a new addition to driver goodies, each driver will receive an action photo of their attempt at the hill. Any questions? Brian Gause CCR-SCCA TTC

So... ITA = SOL?

Actually all drivers that did not participate in all 3 are SOL. Nothing personal. ;D That was the incentive to run all 3 events. You get the bonus of the free tires. We get more drivers at more events. Thats why we published the rules befroe CMP.

Harvey, Your question answer is that ITA was left out but does qualify for the Triple Crown. Please send me you mailing address to the email address posted below so I can send your class record CMP TT trophy. Brian Gause brian.gause@conti-na.com

GREAT!!! Thanks a lot Harvey... my odds of winning just dropped by adding another driver to the mix! Brian, you really do want ME to win the drawing...not Harvey. I just want some average tires...but Harvey? He will be wanting tires for his 18 WHEELER!!!!

Ted, Decisions, decisions! If you had stayed in CSP and sand banged your way to third, you would have your tires. But if you were psychic that would be mote.

With CSP the way it is... "sandbagged" is not the word. I would be THRILLED with a third with that crowd!!!! ;D Between Chillie Willie back from the grave on sunday, Jeremy and TJ getting faster and faster... Mark Seiler, Mort Stern and I need to start a New Vintage Class... referring to the driver...not the car! Seriously, after I ran CSP at Eagle's last year, I was amazed at how fast some guys were. I thought at the time, "those records will stand for a long time!" Well... look at all the records that fell at Wolf's! AMAZING... I suspect you will see more dropping at Eagle's Nest. That's a sign that drivers are learning the course and all of our skills are improving... as long as no one gets hurt and we all play fair by sticking to the rules and gentleman's code of honor, that is awesome!!! I think those are keys. If you break a record but were not legal, it wouldn't mean much and it encourages others to do the same. Then one day, Tech tightens up to get things back on track and... it could get pretty embarassing! When things get out of hand it causes a lot of frustration and it hurts any sport from racing to baseball to ping pong. As a friend told me recently BSBFBF ... Be Safe, Be Fair, Be Fast. (I put those letters on my front wing... .right next to the course map. That map is pretty handy...plus it is faster than asking course workers directions... ) We are well on our way to building a GREAT hillclimb series in the south... one that could rival the PHA series. It is exciting to be a part of it and see where this can lead. We need to get some of that Pennsylvania Yankee crowd to come play with us next year... I think they'd find out the SOUTH is rising again!!! ;D ;D Ted

I found another second or two in my clogged fuel filter after leaving Eagles Nest last year. So if another birthday has not added to much baggage, I expect to be well below last years 100 second mark.

WOW! I received some interesting emails in response to my last post. Sorry if I offended anyone... It appears there were a lot of comments floating around recently about a number of people's cars and what is legal and what is not. One even mentioned they were thinking about protesting several competitor cars at the next hillclimb/time trial event because they were "sick of competing with cars that were visually obvious outside the rules", driving against guys that thought they were " F1 drivers" and another said "it is time to clean it up. Things are getting way too loose on following the rules." I hate to hear that and it is disappointing. That is not good for the sport or for our region. I made a deal along with a few others a while back to keep our cars legal. TJ and I have been running National events where we found out our mirrors were not legal ..so we changed them. Our turn signal intakes were not legal ...so we changed them. Our engine is stock and came out of a wrecked car in Greer. Never had the head off. The rules are very clear about what can be done and what is not legal internal engine AND clutch wise. I wanted to go to competition solid bushings but the rules state that is not legal so we still have original bushings as of today. We may change for Eagle's Nest but if we do, you can bet they will be legal. We had to have a windshield washer jug, so we added it back in. We found out we had we had to meet weight and we do. As Doug Gill National Tech said, "If the the rules don't say you can do it, it is not legal and you can't." In our car, the full wiring harness is still in place and it still looks full under the hood because I don't want to get protested over some little rule and lose a victory we worked for and earned. Someone challenged our wing and when tech read the rules, they said by the rules it IS legal to the letter. We have done a good bit of research on exhaust and air intake with Elvira and had some great people that helped us find a combination that works for us...and I am proud of what we have done. We still get beat sometimes but we're competitive and legal. I would suggest you be careful with your comments. You may not know the rules and think someone is doing something illegal when really, you just don't know the rules. Ask Tech guys as they are your BEST source for accurate information. I remember complaining to Steve E. about something I thought was illegal and found out, it was totally legal and I was wrong. It happens. Check your facts before you open your mouth and spread words you might regret later. If you are not sure if you are legal or not, read the rules...or go run a national. You'll find out real quick...between other competing drivers and tech, you'll find out. Heck, I know a driver at a National who was told if he finished in top ten, he would be protested for missing mudflaps that came on that year model. A buddy of mine in California told me that there's a lot of cars that dominate in regional competition out there but they will not run nationals. The reason is clear... they know they would get caught and it would be embarrassing to get disqualified or moved to another class at tech. If anyone knows of any area our miata is not legal, please let me know so we can fix it. I encourage you to make the same offer. I don't want to win illegally and I hope you feel the same. Otherwise, let's move forward. We announced in our driver's meetings that we don't have protests... we settle things as gentlemen and work it out. That doesn't mean back biting, complaining to anyone who will listen or spreading rumors. That's cowardly and kills the sport. If you are not running legal and you know it, shame on you, you are hurting the sport ...go fix it. If you are not sure, read the rules, find out and take action if necessary. If you think someone else is illegal and is not acting honorably, either step up and confront them in a polite manner and ask them to look into it, ask tech to look into it or shut up because you are killing the sport as well. Historically, people that get beat find it hard to believe that there is a better car or a better driver than them...and claiming the competitors "must be cheating" is an easy way out and much easier on the ego... whether it is true or not. That's egocentric thinking and it is childish and irresponsible. When we first started in motorsports of whatever kind, we all heard "It is more the driver than the car" ..."It's 75% driver and 25% car". We have all seen autocross drivers that could whip the entire field with a lower powered car...and they did it with driver's skill. I saw Rankin's take a stock miata and almost set FTD at an event! (while he creates his own downforce to some degree ... the extra weight should have slowed him down ...but he is truly an excellent driver and carries momentum incredibly well.) In spite of what we heard, years later, we are quick to assume that if WE are beaten ... it must be 90% the illegal car and 10% the driver. Interesting...huh? Whatever happened to... "I got beaten by a superior driver today."? Reality check...it happens. Not everyone who beats you is cheating! We have referred to hillclimbing as a gentleman's sport (no offense ladies...) Well, let's act like gentlemen and move forward and enjoy it. There's some great guys, gals and friendships here ... and working together, we can build a great hillclimb / time trial program in the southeast. I hope you agree and can support this post! Thanks Ted

Not sure what that's all about, but if this is in reference to my lack of a rear cargo area carpet in my CRX, I can put it back if need be. My right corner light is non-OEM and probably slightly lighter as it doesn't retain one of the light bulbs. I'm also missing the front plastic undertray pieces since I couldn't find the fasteners until today.
My aftermarket replacement radiator may not be legal, since it has metal tanks and the ones from Honda have plastic tanks (they're otherwise identical).
The adjustable camber arms I have are legal, as I'm running as a STS2 car in CSP (street tires and all). Same goes for the damaged bumper cover with missing grill. In ST, alternate bumper covers are allowed.

I know I shouldn't have lightened the car at CMP...I promise to have it back together before Eagles Nest...bumper covers to be reinstalled.
Ted, you have a well prepped CSP car, keep up the good work the competition should heat up when Ray starts full bore next year...I hate gettin' my butt kicked by the boy...

Hillclimbs are like any other race and require the 3 step process to cheating:
1 Am I getting beat because of something illegal? (does not include whimpy plastic pieces and creative bumper covers)
2. Have some backbone and have a talk with the other driver. See how they react and if they think it is legal or don't have the super secret part you are convinced they have.
3. All else fails ask them to fix it by next race or put up the money to tear them down--otherwise have some class and shut up!!

Good response, SE until the end. Let's face it, there were some "glitches" in tech at WR. In a particularly competitive class like CSP, it might be time for us to "look" for certain items just like we would do at Impound following a road race. I saw some things that got past tech that could have put our a... in a real bind. We worked to solve these problems and everyone had a good time. If any of us who hold TT tech licenses and are performing the task at EN, let's make sure that we try not to let things slip by us. Would a checklist be in order? Don't know. Let's continue to have fun and not attack folks on forums.

It is our job to determine safety and suitibility for the class. It is the competitors job to police legality and Us to act on a protest if it is written. We will never check any car based on rumour and loose statements. Please see above post for clarification. We spend way too much money on this to not have fun people.
