Thanks to all that came!
We had several new attendees and three people requesting membership information! Dick spoke a little about CCR's plans for the future and upcoming events such as our charity autocross, banquest and elections. We reviewed recent and upcoming events in southeast and our swap shop for those with parts for sale. Dick also provided attendees free passes to go to see Transporter 3 next thursday night... looks like we'll have a big crowd for that!
Michael Mitchell was the speaker for the evening and he covered his part in working with Teen Street Survival Training. He explained the need of driver training beyond High School drivers ed, the increase in cars on the roads and distractions (from I-pods, cell phones,CD players, etc.) and that we lost an average of 50 teens in car accidents last year PER STATE. We also had two parents speak that had their children in these programs with VERY positive results.
The SWCCCR group has committed to hold a Tire Rack Teen Street Survival Training program in Greenville next year. This will include classroom, skid pad, wet track, slalom and obstacle avoidance training. There is some strong interest in working with CSCC in holding one TSS school at Clemson as well. We will need your help in instructing and running these events and Todd Owenby and I will be contacting you all as we get closer for volunteers. Thanks to Todd for all his work leading this effort.
Thanks again for coming. It's getting cold out there but there are still some great events between now and end of year.... and TWO of them are at Carowinds! While Hard Rock Park may be moved for SC Region, I suspect they have something really good in mind as a replacement. If oyu have ideas for speakers or vendors to present at upcoming meetings, please let me know. Thanks!
