Here 's a few Hillclimb videos to help you get through the cold winter and get ready for 2009.... From Ireland - Simon MacKinley with 562 hp and a lot of balls and skill... From France (Corrected : US - Pike's Peak) - Brings new meaning to the term crazy ... From Italy - From Austria - May be Slovenia...not sure. From England - From Canada - Ouchie...those tires hurt! From Denmark - A super 7 surprise The hillclimbers from other countries make us southerners look pretty tame! ;D At least we are safer!!! Merry Christmas and here's to a great year of Time Trials and Hillclimbs in the Southeast! ;D

Matt Palombi from SC Region did some research and he has found that the video from France is actually from Pikes Peak... and he thinks the video from Austria is really from Slovenia. The person who sent that video to me originally is from Austria and he says it's from Austria. I don't know... and don't care. ;D I just like watching these cars going up a mountain fassssssst!
Thanks and sorry if there was any misinformation in my original post on this. Hope you enjoyed the videos wherever they came from.
Thanks Ted

Simon MacKinley must be amazingly talented. I can't imagine juggling "a lot of balls" while doing a hillclimb!

I have no doubt in my mind that the "France" video is Pike's Peak. If you start looking to your right at about 2:30 through about 2:50, I believe that they call this area "Bottomless Pit". IIRC, its 2000+ to the first thing you'll hit if you go off of their. I believe that the first switchback past Bottomless is what they call "Engineer's Corner". This clip picks up the run from about 1/2 way up, past "Picnic Grounds", where it goes from pavement to dirt. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you are), much of the dirt is now covered in something called "Penn-suppress", which seems like a lame excuse for asphalt. I've heard that it'll be paved to the summit in the near future. Just my $0.02 worth. One thing to remember, Tiger Tajima ran this in a Suzuki Escudo right at 10:00 minutes this past year. Scary.

That's good news Scott...the only thing holding me back from running that climb was all the gravel.... ;D ;D ;D ;D Once it's paved, I'm in... oh yeah... sure... absolutely. Gary Ramsey and I spoke a while back and running that place is one of his dreams. TJ had the chance to ride up at SLOW speed last summer... he said it scared the heck out of him going slow. The drops off are ... significant.

I guess that it was four or five years ago that Tiger Tajima (Bigwig at Suzuki) went off. I think that he only went 100' or so, cartwheeling down the side of the mountain. That's the good news. The bad news is that a boulder larger than his car is what stopped him from going further. Elliot Forbes Robinson ran a modified Legends car up Pike's Peak about 10 years ago. I believe that he ran in the unlimited class. IIRC, he finished in the top 5 with it, too.

That's a good representation of some of the best and worst drivers behind the wheel. I went down some of the Ireland routes this past June. CZ Rider

The drops off are ... significant. When I first met Gary last spring at AutoFair he was talking about Pikes Peak, I asked him if he wanted to try something a little easier first...and a lot closer to home. And, TJ, the first time we went to Deal's Gap I drove through around dusk Friday, clean run with tires howling the whole way. Did a few more runs on Saturday but, before we left to come home Sunday morning Sue drove and I got to see it from the passenger's seat ...what was I thinkin' Just strap on the hemet and let 'er rip TJ 1:19 can be yours at Crow...

Those Lancia's roll like crazy! I don't think I've seen anything other than a Rabbit that rolls that easily.
