I'm not one for major introductions mainly cause I don't like to talk about myself a lot. First off I would like to say Hi to each and everyone that reads this. My name is Greg and I am looking to get into the sport of hill climbing. I was drawn to this sport after watching the first annual climb at Eagles Nest. Sadly I missed the 2nd annual but I will be there for the 3rd as a spectator.
Since I am new I will have a lot of questions and I would appreciate any help you can give me at getting answers. Even it is just a simple point in the right direction. We all have to start somewhere and I'm starting at the bottom. I don't expect to be the best of the best. I am mainly in this for the experience, education, and the fun.
So I guess to my first set of questions. What all is needed to get started with hill climbs? I might end up buying back my old Mistubishi Eclipse to get started with so, what type of exterior/interior mods should I expect to do to meet the requirements? Where can I find a list of rules and requirements?

Greg - welcome to your new addiction!
Best thing is to volunteer either to work the event or as crew. That will get you first-hand experience. If you volunteer as a worker you get free room and board for the weekend. Most drivers will welcome the help as crew and may put you up for the weekend.
Come out to our first autocross in February and meet some of the hillclimb gang. I'll be there, I work the Eagles Nest event.

Inferno Welcome to the addiction, just like Rich said plus working a hillclimb will give you the best seat in the house. A quick trip into the future if you decide to drive is to decide what you intend to drive. TT in SEDIV has the ever popular Solo classes which include the Street Prepared (ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, and FSP) several people tend to start out in these classes since the level of getting the car safety ready can be less than a start from- the-ground-up racecar. Solo cars must conform to the Solo rules for classing and then to the TT Rules for safety. If you decide to buy an already built racecar then the rules can change since racecars conform to the GCR for the car and then to the TTR for any additonal safety. There are 4 levels of Time Trials with hillclimbs being the highest at level at 4 in the rules (see SCCA.com go under Club Racing then look for Time Trial Rules) It may seem kinda of confusing but you do have a knowledge base in your area that can be asked. Once you get the car and your personal safety stuff then you will need to get your Time Trial licenses which you can start out as a Novice and run 3 flat tracks to get he Full TT license or if there is a TT school (like TGPR) then passing that can get you a full license in one event. If you have past high speed experience then that can help as well to get the full license. A lot to ingest? yup but then again if Seiler can make it anyone can make it. ;D

Hey thanks for the tips guys. I'll definitely try to make it to the Autocross in Feb. A couple of years ago I was searching for a 2nd gen Isuzu Impulse RS to get into Autocross but never succeeded in finding one. I am sure that is something else I would be interested in doing. Right now I'm just wanting to get my ducks in a row so to speak. I don't have the funds to get going just yet but it's never too soon to learn what is needed so that once funds allow I can get everything together. Anyways just wanted to say thanks for the help. Hope to meet some of ya if I can make to the Autocross in Feb.

Forget about coming up and spectating @ WR, we need you in the action. We can use you as a worker, which will mean that you will have a front row seat to the action. We can put you up for the night with the other workers and you can see first hand how great these guys are. This is the real way of exposing yourself to this type of racing. I cannot promise that you will get bit by the racing bug harder, but you will certainly know if this is something that you want to try. Email me and let me know if you would like to do this.

if Seiler can make it anyone can make it. ;D Kind sir you cut me to the quick...or in my case, the slow ;D in Hill Climbs we ALL start out at the bottom(WAAHAHAHAHA...I crack me up) Some suppliers you'll need to know: Roll Bars: Bethania Garage(Miata), Kirk and Autopower(do most everything else) Driver Gear: RFR Race Parts, Discovery, SafeQuip, SafeRacer It's rather intimidating at first(this is due to the contrived complexity that seems to be built into the rules making) but once you get the basics down, 4-point roll bar, fire bottle, fire suit/shoes/gloves, 5-point harness/armrestraints, SA helmet the rest is pretty simple. Remember, even the Tech Inpectors want you running the event even though they seem like "The Lords of Sending You Home, Tail Between Your Legs In Utter Humiliation" some of the time. fv90 is right, though, if I can figure it out anyone can...you wanna hand me my claw hammer?
