We had a group of about 35 thursday night and we appreciate all those that came (Chris...sorry about the road damage to the Elise but glad you weren't hurt.)
We had detailed reports on racing, autocross and rally in the area. Thanks Seth, Scott and Todd! Todd also gave us a recap of TRSS plans for the following weekend. Ross Hennin from Clemson Sports Car Club gave us an update on their recent autocross and rally as well as car show coming up in April.
Tj Theodore gave a brief presentation on his work on CFD Air Flow simulations for the redesign of the wings for The Bandit hillclimb car. He showed slides of charts and graphs of data as well as actual air flow patterns at speed so we could see how changes we are considering could generate an additional 200 pounds of downforce while reducing drag. Vinnie Lee and Bill Giffin spent some time after the meeting talking with Tj about some further areas to consider as well. Intersting stuff and appreciate his time putting that together for us.
Steve Cooke gave us information on his new company - Learning Curves. Steve's concept is more individual coaching and attention in specific areas as opposed to a school which moves on a standard curiculum and pace. Steve gave us some excellent ideas for consideration for getting ready for spring - tips on improving our performance through body position, car adjustment and mind set before driving and while driving. I liked his statement that when you are behind the wheel... you are not an accountant, an engineer, a football fan, a republican or a gardener. YOU ARE A DRIVER... you are part of that machine and need to focus your attention on the car and all the inputs it gives you as well as all the area around the car - front, back and left and right. Marc Osgood was on the front row nodding and smiling at a LOT of what Steve said. After the meeting, he said "I needed that!" It must have paid off... he left for Dixie National Solo II in Adele, GA the next morning and there, he placed 3rd out of 16 in STS!!! Thanks to Steve for coming to speak to our group and we will look forward to hearing from him again in our meetings.
Looking forward to next month! See you then!
