We'd like to try and get our Charlotte area group back up and going... to do this we're going to swipe a page from Ted and SWCCCR's book and try to have a meeting rather than just a social.
Since we're aiming for more of a meeting than the old socials, we'll be looking at places like Ryan's, Golden Corral... someplace where dinner will be less than $15 and where we'll have a room and it'll be reasonably quiet.
So, I'd like people's input on where would be a good location. There's a Ryan's at Concord Mills, one in Gastonia, Golden Corral at South Blvd / 485 and one in Gastonia. Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Township Grill on Independence and 51 had a fairly large room that worked well. Not sure if it is too far south though.

When I am looking for a meeting place in a restaurant in a town I don't know...I always check to see where Rotary Club and Toastmasters meets.
They only use places that have a meeting room and usually the right (food/class/environment) kind of place.
Any one know where Gastonia, Charlotte, Shelby clubs meet?

Ryan's at Concord Mills works great for me....but I'm not married to it.

Concord Mills doesn't sound bad. Of course I would prefer Golden Coral in Gastonia because it's close to me lol. Only problem is it depends on how many people will attend. That room isn't the biggest by far and slightly crowded. What kind of agenda are you thinking of running? Like discussion? Lunch or dinner ordeal? Sounds like a nice idea.

my darling wife hijacked this thread in the past. She took it upon herself to make meetings happen. A social meeting of SCCA members is akin to hearding cats. Unless you r Ted E. Bear. He has great meetings. However his suggestion of "rotary" does not fly how many of us have mazzdas? with rotormotors. So my sugestion is a meeting in July. Best i can offer, tales of autocross past. Delivered by soloracer. soloracer tales may not be verifiable. Like the 'spin by flashing" , "Barney draws his gun", my only nationals run with the "midget upside down in the starting gate." If we have any takers, i will be at the next meeting. Gastonia sounds good. James

Euphoria, that would be me. Soloracer puts me in that state quite often. Not many wives can truthfully say that about their husbands.
I like the Concord idea.

ROTFL!!!! I want to hear those before mentioned stories. The titles alone are interesting enough.
JB, Thanks for the surgeon generals warning on that one.
I have a feeling a park get together with beer and soloracer stories would be more than we could handle. No food necessary lol.

Laguna, you started this without saying "when". I would suggest either a Wednesday or Thursday of which week you chose. Mondays are not good for some as they have other commitments or might be traveling for business, etc. Also, the folks in SWCCCR seem to be in a better "mood" on Thursdays. Also, concluding from this past week's SWCCCR's meeting, having adult beverages available is to the liking of some if not most. The "private" room aspect along with the adult beverages would be the right combination. Is Hickory Tavern outside the parameter financially?

Also, having John Willes present his dvd race history would be of interest. A discussion of race tires and how we can handle better and go faster with wheel and tire combos would be good.
We have race drivers with race shops in our area. We should think/consider having meetings there if invited.

Let's do John W. first, then Soloracer then have S.E. do his roll cage/safety presentation and slide show.
More ideas, anyone?

O.K. this has to start somewhere, so here goes: (see above) thursday nite, Hickory Tavern 6:30 July 29 Future meetings should be high on our priority list. If we could get Mr. Willis there with his dvd's so much the better. If not , August meeting should be designed around John's scedule. Then ,perhaps, september meeting at the Rabbit Farms museum. Not much of a real museum ,but prolly' a bit of a shock. October, Steve E and his charming wife at a to be picked location to tell soooooooooo Many interesting stories and really interesting info on roll bars. Steve how about your story of leaving your buddy at a service station? hope this helps, James

Tavern is good, but too noisy!
The on at Harris Blvd is the only one that has a dedicated room.

Moral of the story:
If you get out of the truck to wiz in the middle of nowhere be sure to tell the driver. Walking back from Solo National in Kansas is no fun!! That was Steve Haupt.
