A trucking outfit just moved out of a decent sized warehouse around the corner from my job. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some more info on it. IIRC the owners of my company know the person who owns the property. Just below the marker is the property. There is just a building there now all the trailers are gone. maps.google.com/maps?q=35.737441,-81.302424&num=1&t=h&sll=35.735075,-81.304382&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&ie=UTF8&ll=35.737604,-81.301489&spn=0.006662,0.013937&z=17&iwloc=A The BroyHill main office on RT 321 in Lenoir has 2 large lots. The Caldwell Comunnity College has a few lots and currently they have the MSF course there every so often. They also operate a truck driving school on 321. Its a large lot and all its used for is practice for the CDL road test. Target just opened a HUGE warehouse / distribution center on HWY 10 in NEWTON. Real close to 321. I drive a truck locally in the Hickory/Lenoir/Taylorsville area. There are a bunch of empty lots from furniture factorys and other business all around the area. Hopefully one of them will work out.

If the truck school lot you're thinking of is the same one I am (the old Ford dealership) it's way to small, only 130 x 300. Do the use another lot? CCTI's bike lot is 400 x 185. Small, but may be doable. I've not driven around it in a while. The Broyhill office lots look to be 500 x 230. That may work. Not sure if Broyhill is strapped for cash enough to want to rent out their parking lots.
Good ideas, keep 'em coming!

The lenoir Mall is basically vacant aside from a store or two. There is also another large company on Morganton BLVD on the opposite side and closer to Southwest BLVD. I bleive it was called NAACO handling group or something to that effect. Noone has been in that place for atleast 2 years.

Looks like I need to do some driving this weekend when I'm up there.

Wow!! The part to the north of the road is 300 x 600, south part is 300 x 400.
That'll do!!
Yes, if you can get contact info pass it on to me. GIS lists the owner as GE.
Last time I was at the fairgrounds (it's been 10+ years) it was pretty rough. Could have been repaved... dunno. Most of the parking is dirt / grass. Paved area is only 100 x 200 or something like that.

I will call my old boss tomorrow, she probably knows someone over there at the GE plant.
I also drove down 70 from 321 towards newton.
There is the catawba furniture mall that had a huge lot and about 9 cars in the whole place.
Also I think the movie theater that is on 70 is closed now. That lot is shared with a few stores in a strip mall but its a large lot.

It is quite long diagonally.

The GE plant is able to be rented out. I called the realty company and they already are renting out some of the lot. Basically all i asked is if the lot could be rented and could i foward his # to someone else.
His # is 7044053414
Someone else has just signed a lease for one half of the lot but I dont think it will be a problem. Its a tractor trailer driving school. I'm sure we can work around whatever they have.

Also the # for the Broyhill corporate office in Lenoir is (828) 758-3111
It is getting busy again so I will be covering alot more area during work. I know there are huge lots in some of the industrial parks that are vacant. I saw quite a few empty buildings in lincolnton but i dont get out there much.

Hey guys, i know this is an old thread and what not but i stumbled upon this lot going to work after the snow, the only road that wasnt plowed so i had to play haha...never the less i stumbled upon this lot and instantly became 10 (assumed there was no one around), until a security gaurd came running after me. Anyways, this lot stays empty and would make for an AWESOME venue, very very open, smooth pavement, and very secluded from the main road, obviously someone cares enough about the property to have a security guard there so maybe ill stop by on my way to work tomorrow and ask about getting in touch with the owners. Here is a link to the google maps, i dont know what this place is called or its purpose but i will try and find out tomorrow, and i dont think i heard anyone above describe this location. Its just off of I-40 at the Fairgrove Church Rd exit, its the first light past the gas stations if i remember correctly. 12th Ave PL SE after looking at google maps (stupid ass hickory road system) Satellite view: maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=35.708346,-81.260505&spn=0.010524,0.022724&t=h&z=16 and Street View..really gives an idea of how massive this lot is (make sure you do the full 360* ) maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=35.71116,-81.258831&spn=0,359.988638&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=35.710834,-81.259483&panoid=_aTr1xk7y3rhqS0TAEmKxg&cbp=12,347.96,,0,2.54

I rode by there one day a few months back (after one of the snows) and it looks good. I called the number on the realtor sign, never returned my call.
There is a truck driving school running out of there (or was). If they are still there we'll have to get their equipment out of the way.

I know its been a while but i talked to the security guard there and he said the truck driving school is ran out of CVCC and that they have the renting rights to the lot so that we would need to talk to them. I can tell you from perfectly legal, mostly fictional play time around there that it would be PERFECT for autocrossing, and rivals zmax in size and smoothness, asphalt is a little older so it wouldnt be as grippy but still an awesome lot
