Greenville Chapter Meeting – November12th Thursday

I would like to invite you to attend our NOVEMBER SWCCCR meeting at Quaker Steak and Lube just off Woodruff Road in Greenville, SC! Eat from 6 to 7 and meet from 7 to 8:30 (although parking lot meetings have gone on until 11 to 11:30. <S>. All attendees are asked to bring your car and park out front on display.

As always, we will re-cap recent motorsports events, cover all up-coming autocrosses, car shows, time trials, and road races. We’ll also have time for swap and sell so if you have items for sale or trade, bring a good description. (In fact, Ari Surprenant has a hillclimb / track day MR2 for sale now!) Shaun Barrett will be giving us a report from the Turkey Trot at CMP this weekend. I will be giving a report on Second Gear Program. Scott Franklin will have some updates on road racing and his thoughts on Petit Leman last month. The Clemson Sports Car Club should have a report on their last autocross and plans for another this month in Anderson.

Our speaker for the meeting is a member of the CCR Board of Directors, Mark Seiler. Mark is radio station producer in Charlotte and
has been racing autocross Time Trial for many years with the SCCA. He will speaking about some of his experiences in racing including :
- Running in THE most competitive class in Autocross and Time Trial
- What Mid-Ohio track feels like
- Speed through weight loss
- Off course excursions at CMP
- Success through FAMILY support - Crew Chief Sue.
- The importance of seat time for hill climbs
… and what you need in gear, car and paperwork to get started in SCCA Time Trials. He will have handout information.
Mark is a great guy and I know you will enjoy his humor, advice, thoughts and stories. We appreciate him coming down from NC to speak to our group. (I was able to talk him into coming only through blackmail...I have a picture of him in his silk boxer shorts climbing into his Nomexs.) It would have been a shame if that had surfaced on the net! ;D If you have any friends interested in getting started in racing, this would be a great time to invite them.

Here is the door that SWCCCR built! In response to our request for a quieter banquet room, the owners of Quaker Steak installed a roll up garage door to box our room off from the rest of the restaurant! It works GREAT! The manager agreed to add a nice SCCA Roundel on the roll up door to mark our new meeting home.


Scott Franklin gave us an excellent report on course working at Petit Leman... a pretty scary story about the Scott Sharp incident.



Mark Seiler presented a great review of the SCCA Time Trial series...all facets from gear and car prep, licensing and tech. He also passed out quick start guides to all attendees that capture what you need to know to get started. He gave some great tips from lightening your race weight, check list for racing and some other stories from his hillclimbing and track trials. Steve Eckerich also explained CCR's Second Gear program which allows new drivers to borrow racing gear for their first events. The gear is coming from donations from present drivers and will be used to help people get started. That's a substantial savings and allows new drivers to spend their money on the car, helmet and other safety requirements.

Thanks Mark for coming down to speak to the group. We wish you GREAT success at Roebling Road this weekend. Bring Red home with a first in CSP!

Wish I saw this alot sooner and had that day off. That sounds like a very great, informative meeting that i would of greatly enjoyed attending.
