Thanks for everyone coming out on a rainy night! We had a good group show but our parking lot show was canceled by the weather.
We welcomed a new attendee Bob Bromm and will look forward to seeing him and his Corvette at some our autocrosses now he has moved to the area from Washington. We are also looking forward to seeing Roy Erickson's A- Mod car when it's finished. He's making good progress (using his daughter's for sanding and painting parts. I hope he knows there are child labor laws in SC.) We appreciate you and Sue coming last night! Thanks to Jake and Katrina Hester coming and bring their new baby, Alexis! What a cutie! So glad she took after mom!
Ron Wilcox and Zach Scott filled us in on their experience at VIR with the Chump Car Series. While it took some creativity and "in the dark - on the fly" repairs to keep it going, it sounded like they had a blast. There are a number of other events they will be running this year and we will welcome updates from Zach and our own "Mr. Plug -n-Play" Ron Wilcox. (Ron should have received an award for being Most Rested Driver... He slept in the front seat of his SAAB, they plugged him in the driver's seat of the RX7, he ran 2 hours, then slept. Repeat.) ;D
Chris Ross put on a interesting presentation on the F500 / F600 car class and his experiences so far. He has the one of the first F600s in the nation and Chris did a super job of explaining the technical features of these formula cars and the costs to maintain and run in comparison with other cars and classes. The"big screen" videos from his data system gave the group a real feel "from the driver's seat" of what it's like ... and those cars really fly. (An F500 national level driver turned a 1:34 at CMP in Chris's car!) Thanks to Chris for making the trip down from Charlotte to meet with us and present to us. Continued Success Chris! Keep us up to date!
Also, thanks to Scott and Sharon Franklin and Steve and Vicki for driving down from Henderson and Asheville to be with us. Scott was one of the "founding fathers" of SWCCCR... I'm not really sure if it would have happened if he had not been there to be work, encourage and help. Both he and Steve have been supportive and active in making the SWCCCR meeting succeed. Thanks to you both!
See you next month. PLEASE put MAY 13th on your calendar. This will be a special meeting with a speaker you will not want to miss. There is something exciting happening in our area in the motorsports world. More details to follow. Stay tuned!
